My dad brought to my attention that when i pick, i get a weird sound. It sounds like a tapping almost. I'm not doing a pick scream or anything..just a regular everyday picking action. What is causing this?

You could be hitting the string with your fingernail, then it slips and hits the pick, then slides off the pick like normal.

You could also be driving the string into the last fret....or pushing it into the pickup if they're set high enough up.

Are you sure you're not just hearing the pick clicking on the string?

Sounds like the last thing screamingdaisy said, pickup too high. You're probably pushing the string down on it when you palm mute.

no, i think i have my strings set too low. I dont have my pickups anywhere near the strings.

Yeah i mean thats what it sounds like, but its comming through the amp too. Its sounds pretty bad.

is ur thumb too low on the pick? maybe when ur picking fast ur getting accidental pinch harmonics? this used to happen to me after i learned how to pinch.

Yeah, that's audible sometimes. Try using a different guage pick, and see if the sound changes at all. I used to have a Peavey Rockmaster preamp, and the pick attack was very audible with it.

How do i change that though? the rockmaster was your problem..could it be my amp?

it might be your pinky on your pick hand brushing against the strings?

Maybe you need to buy some new picks, you ****ing cheapskate.

no, ive tried new picks too.
