Hi all

Was wondering if someone could do me a great service and give me some pointers for possible wiring for my yamaha pacifica. I have in a moment of ebay madness, bought 2 (neck/middle) cool rails to replace the vintage staggered I already have (want to get rid of the hum).

I currently have a 59' in the bridge and its all wired with a yamaha superswitch and 1 vol and 1 tone.

I'd be interested in the possibilities for this combo of pickups...

But would like at least the following:

1: Neck CR only
2: Dont know - something quacky?
3: Something good for chord strumming.
4: Bridge and Neck
5: Bridge 59'

Any other ideas? Im unsure of what the difference series/parallel wirings make to the sound.

Thanks

Mike

Welcome to the forum. Whatever you end up with, that should be a nice sounding axe. Great combo.

For #2, there's a couple things you could do. Simply having the neck/middle CR's on might be ok. The only trouble with that is, the CR's have a powerful midrange punch. Having both CR's on together in my Strat-a-clone is my least favorite sound. (Although, I love them in every other configuration.) Maybe, the neck CR with the 59 split might be cool.

For #3, having all three pups on at once would be cool. Thats my favorite tone on my Strat. The three pups all balance, and quot;bufferquot; each other for a nice smooth overall tone.

Thanks for the welcome!

I had not thought of the all on option. Might go for that!
As for the CR and split 59, would that be hum cancelling?

Anyhow - my problem is that I dont understand the layout of the superswitch, so was wondering if anyone had (or could describe) a schematic of a similar arrangement.

Thanks

Mike

welcome mos chops

i think that you can get a layout of the super switch at stewmac.com -

from : localhost/it is pretty straight forward ... it is like 4 separate 5 ways all packaged together .. the 'end' posts are the 'common' for their 'quadrant' of the switch and each of the 5 posts in that quadrant correspond to the switch position itself

splitting the 59 would make the combination with a CR non-humcancelling ... i dont know if you have the newer CR model with 4 wires ... if you do, it could be possible to do a mag flip and reverse wiring then split it and combine it with the split 59 to achieve humcancelling ... never having opened up a 4 wire CR, i cant tell you if this is doable or not ... it is VERY doable with a regular double coil humbucker, but with a rails, i cant say

could you add a push/pull pot or two? ... if so, you could get some cool combos ... one could control the split of the 59 and the other could 'drop in' the middle at any time ... you could have :

neck
neck middle
neck bridge
middle bridge
bridge

in the 3rd position, if you pull the pot, you could add in the middle to get all 3

with the other push / pull, anytime the bridge is on, it oculd be split or notjust a thought
good luck

Hi all

Thanks for the responses. I have found something over at guitarelectronics.com here which is a wiring setup for a HHH arrangement.

Could I use this as a basis for what I want to do. I'd really like to get a split coil sound in pos 2amp;4 but would like them humcancelled. Incidentally, I do have the 4 wire version of the Cool Rails.

So can I split the middle cool rail depending upon which inner coil of the neck/bridge pickups to get a hum cancelled effect in the inbetween positions.

Oh and position 3 would be neck bridge.

Thanks

Mike
