Well, after 2 weeks of messing around with the SH-5 in the bridge postion of my tele i have found it too be too bright when the tone knob is at full, is there anyway to reduce the bightness of the pickup besides turning the knob down everytime? will lowering the pickup height help?
Yup, you can place a .001mf capacitor on the hot from that pickup and run the other end of the cap to ground.
alright, thanks for the fast response theodie .
what do you have in the neck? you can use 250k pots to tame the highs abit.

Yup, that's what I did on one of my guitars. I went further and replaced the volume control with a push-pull pot so I could take the capicitor in and out of the signal. The cap doesn't have a huge effect, but it's enough to tame the high-highs.
Oddly enough, I did this to a guitar that had a Custom-Custom (now a C3). Compared to my guitar with a Custom (SH-5), the CC was way to bright. But this was due to differences in construction: the CC was in a hardtail mahogany guitar with a thick maple top, whereas a the Custom was in a mahogany strat with a Floyd. It turns out that the maple cap made the guitar a little too bright for my taste (or at least sometimes). The .001mf cap did the trick. It's kinda like the treble-bleed mod, but in reverse. The cool thing is that the push-pull pot allows me to revert to quot;normalquot; if I want a brighter sound.

Yikes! 250k pots, and the Custom is too bright? I'll admit that it has some added presence, but the mids tend to fill it out make it sound thicker. What sort of guitar are you using? Have you tried fiddling with the amp settings?

Lower the treble end of the pickup. One should always mess around pickup height when getting a pickup or not being satisfied with its sound. Often it could be the easiest and simplest, not to mention cheapest option.

im using it in a swarm ash tele, i have lowered the pickup height and it aint that bright anymore ... thanks all
For what its worth, the Custom 5, (SH-14), in the bridge of my Tele is one of my favorite pups. You could try swapping the magnet for an A5, or just replacing the pup with a C5.
Just a thought.
