Hi,
I would really appreciate some help from all you experts out there. I have just installed new pickups in my 50's classic tele (st59 in the bridge, vintage rhythm stack in the neck). They sound superb - huge improvement on the stock pickups however they buzz like crazy (in all positions of the 3-way switch) unless I touch some metal on the guitar which stops the buzzing completely. I have grounded the bridge, I have checked all my wiring and everything seems to be correct. The stock pickups hummed aswell so I am wondering if it may be a bad pot?? how could I test for that? any ideas gratefully received!!

Welcome!
Well, that sounds like a grounding problem. Do you have a multimeter?
You should check if all metal parts (pots, strings, bridge) are grounded.
If they are, you could shield your guitar with cooper tape and/or shielding tape.
I usually do this with all my guitars.
