I was thinking about mids on Marshalls...

What you guys keep your eq settings on on non-master Marshalls. Especially mids would be interesting to know...since alot of people claim that the sweet spot lies in the mids...not cranked nor under 1 o'clock. while others think it should be cranked all the time with these kinds of amps. Few seems to like mids under 12 o'clock...which also makes sense since it's mids that makes the characteristics of the Marshall sound. What's your settings and how do you prefer the mids?

Well I can't help here cause my new non-master Marshall clone amp has only got volume control and a single tone control on each channel. I haven't got bass, middle and treble controls.

In my case is quite simple, turn the single tone control up for more treble response or down for less.

The mids are just there, I guess.

bump... thought this was going to get quite some replies well, i'll give it a quot;newquot; chance...

Most NMV Marshalls seem to sound best with the Presence on 6, Bass on 10, Mids on 6, Treble on 3-5, and volume on 3 1/2 Amps with a gain control sound best with the gain on 7 or -, depending on what model it is.

Well highly depends on what speakers you will use!
Nothing to do but twiddle the endless rows of knobs on the Marshall

Jonsey is close on how I like to set my Marshall. Bass 9-10, Mids 6-7 and treble 6-7. My Marshall sounds muffled and not biting enough to me if I take the treble lower than noon. The mids do seem to make this amp, and sometimes I run them higher depending on the guitar. My Lesters seem to like them about 7 with the treble about matching. I'll back down treble a bit, and boost mids if I'm playing a Strat.

Speakers do make a big difference. When I was running V30's, I had to back down the mids more and crank the treble up to balance. Now that I have the G12T-75's back in there, It's more of balanced, typical quot;Vquot; shape to the eq. I've never understood amps where you have to set the bass on 2, the treble on 3 and the mids on 2-3 to get a good sound. Why have the knobs go all the way up?

EVERYTHING ON 11!!

The best way I have found to setup a Marshall is to dime evrything....... Then turn down what you don't like. It work for me.
