Hi everyone!
One friend of mine has a MIJ fender strat from the 80'. Now he's interested in upgrading the electric system and this includes pickups. He's looking after the Eric Clapton tone. He isn't particulary interested in installing he mid-frec amplificator. Which pickups do you recomend?
Thanks!
Well, Clapton used to use the silver and gold Lace sensors in his signature model but now he's using the Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups.
I'd go for Duncan SSL-1's: the California Classic set. Or a set of Antiquity Surfers. That's if you're looking for Clapton's Layla tone, which was Blackie or Brownie...his best sounding 50's Strats. Lew

what about the pups that go into the '56 strat?
i mean blackie and browny were 56-57 vintage instruments, that may get him close?
what are those does anyone know? i dont think they make a set of 56s do they?
does duncan have anything like this?

The Eric Clapton Signature Strat with Lace Seonsors has three Gold Lace Sensors.
There are no Silver Lace Sensors unless someone installs them aftermarket.

I thought the middle one was Silver. I stand corrected.
What about the vintage stack?
A set of Bareknuckle Slowhand pickups for Strat will get you quite close to Eric's tone (amp depending of course ).
Craig
Eric's tone was a pretty stock strat tone, but his more quot;modernquot; playing pushes the mids more with that circuit. He still plays clean sometimes though, especially for his soundtrack work.
I'd say just start with a decent vintage set, like the one's Lew mentioned, then get a good pedal for the rest.
Antiquity Surfers and the rest is with your hands, amp, and effects...
