So pretty much I purchased a Jackson RR3 not to long ago. And those duncan design pickups suck in it. So I wanna have em jerked out and have some high quality duncans dropped in.

And my RR3 is made out of alder, and I want a major output, harmonics of heaven. But i'm not sure what pickups to have put in replace of them.

So now I ask for your alls opinions, please help.

Thanks in advance.

welcome to the forum!!

what would you like from your neck pup? ive always loved the tone of a duncan distortion in the rhodes models. i used to have an old white one that had a jb in the neck and a distortion in the bridge.
high output with loads of sustain and a great crunch

Man in my bridge I want very outstanding cleans really, and my bridge I want extreme high output.

The reason I've been asking is because when I've discussed this with others they're like quot;alder wood is brighter, and only some pickups would be alrightquot; and I'm like ...quot;ehquot;

So I came here to ask.

I would not worry about the Alder causing you any problems. If you are looking for grat cleans in the neck it's hard to beat either a Jazz or an Alnico II pro, for a areal nasty bridge with lots of output and harmonice, I would think that either a Distortion or a Custom woyld do fine. For what it's warth,. Randy used a Distortion in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for all the warm welcoming.

I just got done shredding, I think I've plateaued again....sigh. My down picking is like surperior but I've been doing so much down picking, when it comes to alternate its like quot;ughquot;.

But your recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Here is what I was thinking about putting in the RR3

Neck Pickup

Bridge Pickup

But once again please any opinion about either of these, I'm really unexperienced about SD. All I know is I played a pair on a schecter a while back and I've been wanting some duncans ever since.

How is the jackson floyd on the rr3?

To me its an outstanding piece of equipment. I really wanted to purchase the RR5 because of the set bridge and gold hardware. And I could of, but I bought the RR3 because of the Floyd Rose instead of chucking out another 1,000$ for the RR1 US Series.

But yes I do like it, I've had no problems with it so far. Only thing I don't like so far is I hit an Natural Harmonics (example: 4th fret, crazy train lick) and it dosen't ressonate very well when I vibrato with it. Sometimes it does, sometimes it dosen't, so thats both my tech. and pickups in question.

So another reason why I want better duncans!

But otherwise I do enjoy it. I haven't changed the strings on it yet so their still the stock. I'll eventually put some Ernie Ball 9's on it and give it some shred.

Only thing bad about the RR3 in my opinion are the pickups, it does take alot of getting used to considering I'm used to playing on set bridges and strat like trems.

The JB/59 set is a standard set of the duncan line. That said, I really think that a Distortion/Jazz set would better for what you are looking for.

BTW...I would not buy pickups from Musicians friend. There are several forum brothers that are duncan dealers.

I have done a lot of business with martinsixstringcustom and been very happy with all the deals that have gone down.

I second the Distortion/Jazz!!!!

I'd go for a DD/JB. You'll find, as I have, that the JB in a Rhoads bridge lacks some major balls. I'm opting for a Custom instead of a DD, but I don't want as much output as you seem to want.

Man thanks for all your suggestions, where are these duncan dealers at?

I'm also tossing in a vote for a Jazz, DD set, very nice.

Luke

Do you have any pics of your Jackson??

Unfortunately no, but since you asked I'll post one on here ASAP. But once again quot;unfortunatelyquot; I gotta go to work in like 20 mins and I got no time. I get home at around 10 (night shift) so I'll bust out the camera and work on it then ok?

It shall be posted in time....

1 TO THAT DD/JAZZ SET IS THE BEST FOR RHODES STUFF (AND METAL IN GENERAL) CHRIS

One pic of my RR3. I'm watching it leaning against my dresser right now, man I love how wicked it looks. Ok so a Jazz on the neck, and a DD on the bridge. Man that sounds very promising, I'll take your alls word for it.

But now a question on appearance, that Jazz can I get it with like a white/black or pearl/black like design? Cause I think that would look very badass on this RR3.

you could get a white/black if you order it that way

Excellent

Just ordered a Distortion and a Jazz for my RR3.

Buwhahahaha, I can't wait, she should be an outstanding shred machine when its all done.

Finally I got me some money and wa la, so I'm excited. New big purcahse will probably be a Dean ML 79' reissue. Looking forward to that one day.

Cheers.
