Just finished installing a new Alnico II in my son's Les Paul copy and WOW! That pickup kicks butt! I hate to admit it but I think I like it better than my SH-5 Custom. What a great Rock N Roll pickup! When they say a Slash sound they are dead on. It wasn't too hard to get a pretty decent Slash sound. Sounds a little more edgey and a bit briter than my Custom. I wonder which is more versatile? Also I wonder how it would sound with my 59 neck SH-1?

One of my favorite pickups of all time. I am having a really hard time not putting it in all of my guitars...seriously. I have it in the neck of my double fat strat, I have the set in my Dean Hardtail, I just ordered one for the neck of my Les Paul standard, I have annother neck that just arrived from a forum brother, and I'm building a one off of the APH at UGD.

I think it's a really wonderfull pup for all styles of music, but it can do Slash for sure. If I was going to pair it with a 59', I would go 59'(b) and APH(n). If you don't have the right amp, the APH can sound a little thin in the bridge, but it can warm up even the coldest neck spot.

Glad you like it!

The Duncan Alnico II Pro is as good as it gets.

Yep. The Alnico II Pro and the Pearly Gates are my two favorite neck humbuckers...and the Seth Lover and the Antiquity and the Jazz and the........

Great pup. I wish I still had the neck. I sold the bridge and got a CC from the man above (Lew)

Yes, the A2Pro neck or PG neck and a Custom Custom bridge is a great set.

Thanks! Lew

I was hoping to be as happy as you all are with the AIIPH when I put in the neck of my Epi LP however, it hasn't been very satisfying. I can get the cleans I'm looking for but can get nowhere close to Slash's lead tone. It may be the recto, but I had a closer Slash tone with the '59 in the neck. Could something be wrong with my pup? It's just very flat and lifeless for me.

Lee Bob....I've found that by lowering the APH in the neck, I can really get the tone to open up. If it's too close to the strings, it tends to loose definition IMO. Try backing it down a bit, and then adjust the individual pole pieces to dial in individual strings. I have mine almost flush with the neck pickup ring.

Also, for Slash's tone, try rolling back your tone knob at least halfway. That will give it more of that fluid, smooth Slash tone ala November Rain and Heavens Door.

the AII Pro is coupled with the C5 in my Gibson SG amp; i didn't get it because of Slash... i fancy it in the neck for lots of warmth amp; smooth top end, without notes turning to mud.

I have always rolled the tone knob down on previous neck pups to get that Slash tone but it hasn't worked since I got the AIIPH.
