SO.....I bought this Fender '63 Reissue Reverb tank. By the time it gets to me, it has a few problems
O.K., I'm giving the guy the benefit of the doubt that it got bounced around in shipping.
Anyway, one of the springs broke off......I'm looking for replacements amp; I can go with the direct replacement 2-spring tank or for a couple bucks more, get the 3-spring version.
My question is....is there a noticeable difference between 2 amp; 3 springs? It's only a matter of a few dollars difference, so the cost isn't a factor...but is there a major sound difference?
I would imagine the 3 spring has a fuller rounder sound, but what the hell do I know???????
............anyone?
I'd recommend you get exactly what was in there. I've had less than glowing success putting 3 spring tanks in 2 spring applications. It just gets quot;too muchquot; for me.
Stuff happens in shipping though, I can assure you. Having a reverb spring break in shipping isn't too hard to imagine. If you're really handy with a soldering iron, I hear you sometimes fix a broken srping. It's usually where it attaches.
Thanks for that different take on this Scott....I wasn't even thinking that the circuitry was built for 2 spring, leave it alone.
Yeah, after initially being pissed, I realized that it was really the chain of events that probably tore the wire amp; spring off. I fixed the little things, but I couldn't get the spring to stay once stretched.
The good news is it's not an expensive fix amp; even with one spring, it sounds o.k. You can kind of tell how much better it'll be with 2 springs amp; a tube swap.
BTW the guy was pretty cool about the whole thing amp; offerred to reimburse me for the fix....I thanked him, but sh!t happens. I don't hold him responsible for the mishap, but the offer was there which is appreciated.
ehhh...that bites man...i hope you get it worked out though!?
Contact Dale at if he can't advise you get a ouiji board and contact Leo himself!
One of the best tech's I've ever dealt with, his workshop has more black face fenders than the pocket book can cope with. Then their are the Marshall's etc...
Thanks fellas.....found a replacement from my man Andy at MojoTone!
$30.00
I should be surfing some time next week!!!

I'm looking at the same piece of gear myself and am realy curious to see how it works out for you and what your impressions of it are after you've used it for a few weeks. Post your reviews, I know there are others here that are looking at the same piece of gear and were all very interested. Jeremy has been talking that reverb up more than once on here. He says he uses it with a Bassman and it has a very fat sound. I'm always willing to listen to someone else who knows a thing or two. Good luck with the spring and let us know how it works-thnx
O.K., will do.
Honestly, I've never seen any mention of them here....but I ordered a tank from Mojo amp; it should be here Tuesday amp; as luck would have it, I'm off all day!!!
I already had planned on rewiring my Strat amp; slapping in the Surfers on Tuesday....if all goes well, I'll be practicing quot;Wipeoutquot; by the afternoon!!!
I'm curious to hear it running properly because it actually didn't sound bad on one spring!
