I got a Gift Cert from GC for Fathers Day (a little early, but fine with me ).
So I picked up a Jackson DKMGT as a quot;projectquot; guitar (Bolt on neck w/ RW board, Alder archtop body, string through w/ TOM, 24 frets). Love the way the guitar plays and feels, resonance is great, but the EMG HZ's sound like @$$.
I wanna set this up as an 80's quot;hard rock/shredquot; axe and was looking into a Custom Custom or a Demon in the bridge. Something with medium to medium high output. I've heard a CC in a Paul and din' care for it, but I've heard some strat clips that were nice. No personal experience with a Demon.
How does the CC/Demon clean up? (w/ the volume knob)?
How tight is the bass on each? (compared to say..a JB)?
How well do they cut/scream for leads (again say compared to a JB?). I don't want a very compressed sound under high gain.
Full Shred be a good match for either in the neck?
And god forbid...I'm also considering some DiMarzio Supers for it :ducks:
Any and all comments are appreciated.
For an 80's sound I'd go for a JB or Distortion...the Demon doesn't sound very 80s to me...it's a little more open and HI-FI sounding.
My pick for 80's sounding would be the custom and the full shred.
I have a CC in all maple body guitar, rosewood board. Sounds sweet. The highs are real smooth, the mids are definitely there. The lows aren't as tight as others but I love it anyway. With a good OD going, it's almost a nice crunchy low end. I've never had a problem with it not cleaning up well with the volume know. Heck, I usually leave my amp on the OD channel and just roll back the volume anyway. That guitar finally sounds the way I've wanted it to.
Thanx all for the comments...
I actually think I'm gonna try some Dimarzio's in it...been 10 or 12 years since I've used any..and I hate conformity
Air Zone bridge, Air Norton in the neck.
