i want a really heavy/ thick fuzz pedal that is also useable. my local guiatr shops dont have many to choose from, so i probably wont be able to test it. i cant really describe exactly what i want, but i know its like a growl or something. i dont remember where i herad it but ill try to.

i just remembered. i think its from smash mouth quot;walkin on the sunquot;. i read that he used a zvex fuzz factory, but is it from his setup, or does the pedal actually sound like that?

I just got a Roger Mayer Spitfire fuzz and it is just amazing. The fuzz goes from a vintage type at low gain levels to thick/fat David Gilmore at Pompai at high gain. It will even make the amp feedback at bedroom levels! I havent used a pedal in 15 years but I finally found the fuzz that I have been looking for. And, I wouldnt have tried it looking at the reviews on HC but my friend didnt like it so I gave it a try and lets just say he didnt get it back!

both the fuzz factory and the octane 3 are super thick fuzzes but they sound completely different. check them both out at www.zvex.com

EHX Big Muff or a Z Vex fuzz factory.

If you can find a Park 3-Knob Fuzz Sound second hand, snap that up, iI got one and its easily the best fuzz i've ever used, as long as it agrees with your amp.

Theres also a brand called Frantone who make a great fuzz called quot;The Sweetquot;

The Big Muff is a classic if you're looking for that 2000 Pound Bee tone.

My buddy AJ uses one but runs it into his DS-1. Believe it or not, the DS-1 makes the Big Muff sound even better.

Running them into the DS-1 makes alot of pedals sound alot better, IMO.

i was on the blues saraceno site and listened to the afro fuzz. the clips for it are insane. who has used it? i think it might be what i want.

No one suggesting the SD Tweak Fuzz?

I guessed that would be a good start with the 6 voices and all, although I haven't tried one so I don't even know what it sounds like...

That Z Vex Fuzz Factory Vexter (reduced price because of no hand-painting) looks interesting too, they are said to be damn good.

From Blues Saraceno's site:
SEMYOUR DUNCAN quot;Tweak Fuzzquot;

The quot;Afro Fuzzquot; and the quot;Tweak Fuzzquot; are of the same design. The quot;Afro Fuzzquot; is hand wired and uses both a Silicon transistor and a Germanium transistor and are costly. The quot;Tweak Fuzzquot; uses 2 Silicon transistors and is only a fraction of the cost. The pedals were identically tuned and the quot;Tweak Fuzzquot; was created for a more cost conscious player thanx to the magic of mass production. Go to the Website for more info and a videos of Blues talking about and demonstratint the quot;Tweak Fuzzquot;.
I have a Zvex Vexter Fuzz Factory and a Skreddy Zero (the best Big Muff clone I've tried), but I wouldn't say either was quot;heavy.quot; My idea of quot;heavyquot; is something really insane and borderline unusable, like a Roland BeeBaa or a Fender Blender.

A Fender Blander is pretty insane, but as for pretty common, easy go find fuzz units that are pretty nasty a Big Muff is hard to beat!

If you got $175 shipped, I'll sell you my T. Rex Mudhoney Fuzz. They cost $210 new, and kick copious amounts of ass. Look it up on harmony-central.com reviews, then PM me if you want it. The price is firm, tho. It's a dual mode pedal. With the button up, it's an overdrive. With the button down, it's a river of smooth mud.

I would say go find somewhere that you can try out multiple fuzz pedals.. a friend's or something like that, and just give 'er!!! From the sounds of it it might not be a bad idea to go for the Tweak Fuzz.

*EDIT*
I just looked at the video clip on the main site where Blues Saraceno demonstrates the pedal... WOW.... it sounds amazing!!

bump
