A part from picking a V30 and the G12H-30s together for great tone, how is the overall quality of the cabinet....

Lastly...And most importantly,How does the cab sound? Is it tight,clear,punchy,bassy,etc...with your setup and speakers?

John

I find the quality of the cab to be astonishing for the price. Considering that the cab was $311 shipped, and that the speakers are $100-150 new... you aren't paying much for that voidless birch cab. It's a very sturdy cab, mine has been moved, bumped, and jostled plenty since I've had it and there's not a mark on it. It won't be as fancy construction-wise as a Bogner or THD cab (no porting or baffle system), and some people don't like the fact that the speakers are front mounted. I personally don't mind that, and I get a wonderfully defined, punchy sound with PLENTY of bass response out of my semi-open cab. It has a 50w Mesa Rectoverb head sitting atop it.

I have the open-back 2x12 quot;specialquot; (I guess it's partially open-back). The quality is quot;OKquot; (honestly, I've been looking at the Bogner oversized 2x12 to replace it); it's definitely a bit nicer than the Carvin Legacy 2x12 I had, which was pretty barebones. I use it with a Yamaha T-50 and a 73 LP Custom with a JB/Jazz set. It's very punchy and very bassy (with my particular setup), so I run the amp with the bass control on quot;3.quot; It sounds perfect like that. My only complaint would be that I don't really like the way it sounds when my amp is dimed (I'm guessing that the G12H is getting pummeled and the V30 is barely breaking a sweat).

Hey John, I`ve got an Avatar 2x12 closed back cab and I like it a lot! It`s got 2 Eminence Lengend V12 speakers that are supposed to be similar to Celestion V30s. With my Marshall JTM 45 head it`s a pretty bassy setup , could be the the the Marshall is bass happy. I just run the bass pot some where between 9 and 10 a`clock. Avatars service was great as the 2 cabs I`ve ordered from them were delivered within 3 days tops. Your modded pedals have been cranking through it!

Hey mate,

I didnt go the 'special' version, But I went the custom version and still got v30/g12h30 in a black grille /black tolex, closed back version.

The cab sounds awesome, It is clear and articluate.

However, I took it to a 3-day outdoor gig this weekend, and its been chipped on top of the cab (very pissed off rite now)

Thanks guys...As expected,I'm getting some mixed feelings and mixed reviews about this cab?

Maybe the AD212 Vox cab would be the way to go then?

From what I hear, most Modelling amp cabs are crap.... but I have no experience so it's just hearsay!

Thanks for the useless knowledge....

John, if the Vox sounds good through your other normal guitar cabinets, then I would assume an Avatar would work just fine. Line 6 modelers on the other hand, are best suited to direct recording and running straight into the board, so they really sound best going through a full-range speaker as opposed to a guitar cabinet.

The Vox Valvetronix sounds really good through my Marshall V30 4x12 cab,but it doesn't sound right if I use it through my Fender Cyber Twin 2x12 cab...The CT cab is open backed with a set of 8 ohm G12H-100 Celestions...Yet these Celestions sound great with the Cyber Twin...

My mindset,is that the Vox must just sound better through a closed back cabinet? Or...There's something with the V30s and the Vox that works...

Maybe so. If you're wanting to get a Avatar 2x12 to use with it, they have a closed-back option and you could always go with a dual V30 setup.

Honestly, I look back on my g12h30/v30 purchase and wish i got dual v30's.

The sound is amazing, but playing live, 2 mics is a biatch, and the fact that its 60watts just makes me cautious with the volume control.

60watts? The V30 is 60 watts alone. Add in the G12H30, and you have 90 watts. That should handle the MKIV.

Do you wish you would've gotten dual V30's because of tone reasons, as well? How do they mix with high gain?

The speakers are wired in parallel, so the total wattage is eqivalent to the wattage of the lowest power handling speaker times two. I don't think you can run mismatched speakers in series.

I had no problems using a MKIV with it, but I kept it in the 30 watt mode.

Maybe that's not a good setup in my case...I'd be running each channel side(Stereo)of the vox into it's own seperate 8 ohm speaker...If I go with the V30/G12H-30....One channel would only have a 30 watt speaker and the second channel would have a 60 watter? Maybe a set of V30s is the direction to stay with in my case?

The amp is rated for 120 watts(60 watts x 2) in stereo...

Ah alright, I didn't know that. Looks like I won't be getting that speaker combo anytime soon, after all.

Yeah, I also have no trouble with the MarkIV. I run on the 30watt mode all the time, Dave from avatar said this... The amp is rated for 120 watts(60 watts x 2) in stereo...My initial reaction is to say yes, just to be safe, a pair of V30s would be best. But, you did say you liked the way that amp sounded through your V30 loaded 4x12quot;, so maybe that's not such a bad thing .

as far as wireing up different speakers in series, I beleive it can be done, However due to there differences, they... well, Just read this....
from : localhost/to last post. That guy really knows his stuff, and he's a great help at TGP.

I'm going to check out the Vox AD212 cab....I could always stick a set of V30s in it and sell the quot;Neo Dogsquot; if I don't like them?
