Well, I've wanted one of these for sometime now. I never really thought I'd pull together enough scratch to buy a Standard of any kind. I sold most all my other guitars, waited for the right time, and what do you know...here it is! She's an '04 Standrad. Gibson has redeemed themselves in my eyes with this one. I'm sure you all remember the compliants I had with my Classic! Aside from a pretty intense buckle rash on the back, She's in great condition. It's lighter than my SG-X, brighter too. You can feel that acoustic resonsnce up through the ribs! It's a keepr! I don't know if it's considered a quot;flawquot;, but the inlays have these small patches of yellow in them. I really like it, makes 'em look old. The 490 neck is staying for now, but I gotta get a Custon or a C5 in the bridge. The 498 has got to go. It's far too weak for my ears. Anyway, what you all REALLY wanted:
looks like a beautiful guitar, you'll hafta post some clips once you get your duncan in there.

nice toes as well

Rock ON!

I always had a soft spot for nice SGs such as your's. Once you get it all tweaked to your personal specs, it is one of the easiest guitar to play and enjoy for many years to come.

Congrats and the best of luck with it!!

Very cool man, congratulations.

Very nice! I am sure that it sounds great. I like your idea of putting a Custom in the bridge for sure. Rock on man, that's a sweet looking axe

Thanks guys. The rest of the money from my recent sales will be going into the aluminum bodied Tele I'm building. I've been waiting all of about 3 months for this body to be made. I'm not quite sure what to think of the guy at this point...maybe he will redeem himself too.

While the custom is a bit more percussive with a tighter EQ and more focus, both it, the C5 and the 498T are all around 14k. IMO the C5 will actually sound weaker because of the lack of mids, the 498T has a mid spike and sounds a little raunchier to me. I never had a problem with the 498T's overall tone or output as a hot pickup, but I don't care for its slight lack of clarity.

It's just not bassy enough for me. Maybe it's not that it's too weak, more that it doesn't have that bottom-end crunch I like.

Great looking guitar!

The output of the 498T and the Custom is similar, but the Custom definitely has more bottom-end crunch. The problem with the 498T for me is that it is focussed in the upper mids, which detracts from the bottom end. The Custom is much better balanced, though I haven't heard one in an SG. Reckon you'll want an Alnico II Pro or '59 in the neck too!

Congratulations!

hey i have an aluminum bodied tele. it was made by Fender a few years back(around 10 I think) and it has a very cool blueish ty-die paint job on it. its hollow of course so it has kindof a hollow bodied jazz tone. it is a very cool guitar.

out of curiousity what was wrong with your les paul classic? BTW nice axe! i love black guitars and sgs look extra bad ass!

It is being made by the same place that made the Fender aluminum Strat and Teles awhile ago. I'm putting a Custom P-90 in the Bridge. Ho do you think that would sound? Did you have issues with feedback at high gain levels?

it would be cooler if it was yellow. just kidding bro, it looks great! you can never go wrong with a black SG!! enjoy it!!

It was an SG Classic. REALY bad job on the binding. It looked like a 5 year old cut it with a screwdriver. REALLY bad fretboard. There were gouges on either side of every fret on the neck...I guess from when the pressed the frets in. The gray marks around the frets are the gouges filled with dust and gunk. It was purley cosmetic, but I could not live with it. I bought the guitar with intentions of keeping it forever. I could not live with those issues forever. I ended up selling it to someone less picky than myself. You can't really see very well, but here are some pics:
Killer axe... now go water your lawn!

Acually, I've got a PGn that I have been sitting on for the past 6 months. I think I found a home for it.
