Love everything about my new Carvin. But I noticed the neck binding along the edges extends all the way over the side of the nut. That's just retarded. It would be an absolute b!tch to replace the nut. I was considering putting an Earvana nut on it, which is why I noticed. What now?
????????????????????????
What neck binding?
Carvin doesn't offer neck binding.
Are you talking the clear coat?
You just need to take your time and score the clear coat with an exacto knife.
Peel it off the nut. Then pull that nut off and place you earvana.
Any of my guitars with a regular nut and glossed neck, the clear coat covers the edge of the nut.
It's normal.
I've seen it on many of brands.

upon closer inspection, I think you're right, looks like clear coat on the side of the ebony fretboard. I thought maybe binding because I have a painted neck back. But anyway, if I change the nut I think I'd rather just cut that sucker out and put the new nut in, extremely carefully mind you. The main reason I paid attention to it is because I believe they cut the nut too low in the G string slot. I get a nasty buzz/rattle with that string open and the action isn't all that low. I'm going to have my tech look at it before I do anything rash, don't worry. lol.
That could be.
Your tech may be able to fill that slot and re-cut it.
Not sure how they do it.
I remember someone mentioned doing it with a superglue or some type of glue.
Then once fully hardened, they would cut the nut slot to a proper level.
So you may not have to replace the nut.
