My friend and I are having an argument about if we should run a MESA Single Rectifier (50 Watts) through a MESA Rectifier Cab (4x12) at 4 ohms or 8 ohms. So guys, which one is it?

What is the cab marked?

Unless it's a stereo cab, my guess is that your speakers are 16 ohm and wired to 4 ohms. Running it at 8 ohms won't hurt the amp, but you'll probably get a better sound at 4 ohms.

So 4 ohms out of the amp and 4ohms into the cab?

mesa cabs are rated for 8 ohms.

I'm still curious if the cab is marked by the jacks.

I dont see where it is rated, when where should i be looking?
If it is rated for 8ohms, I should go 8ohms from the amp and 8ohm input in the cab correct?

I went to the site and got this:
quot;4x12 (choice of slant or straight front), 280 Watts, 4 - Celestion Vintage 30 Speakers, Wired for Mono or Stereo, Track-Loc Casters, 8 Ohms Mono / 4 Ohms Stereoquot;

Right, the impedance should match.

It might not be marked, that's why I was asking. If it is, it would probably say near the input jacks on the back.

If it's 8 ohms, then yes you'd run out of the 8 ohm jack on the amp head, and into a jack on the cab. You referred to an quot;8 ohm input on the cabquot;... are there seperate inputs? I have no experience with Mesa cabs so I have to ask.

Ah, thats good. Just run from the 8 ohm jack on the amp to the left jack on the back of the cab (when facing the back).

Also, make sure you're using speaker cable between the two, NOT a regular guitar cable.

8 ohms mono, 4 ohms stereo to be exactI also know that they are loaded with 8 ohm Celestions. There's a combination of series and parallel wiring in the cabs to get the 8 ohms mono and 4 ohms stereo.

Plug into the mono jack, set the amp's output tranny to 8 ohms, and rock away.

edit: man, I guess I'm slow on the trigger today.

When you say the left jack, I assume you mean the 8ohms one. It has two 4ohm inputs, another one that I forget what it is, and then the 8ohm one.

Thanks for the help guys. Its appreciated.

When I said quot;left jackquot; I was talking about the cabinet. There are 2 jacks on the back of the cab, I always plug into the left jack when running mono, I was conditioned by Line 6 in my younger days.
