On my old strat, one of the nut slots is a bit too deep. Anything you can do, like some kind of glue, to build it up slightly?
Two ways: use a mix of glue/sawdust to form a thick paste. Spread it on a little at a time and wait for it to dry. Either that, or cut small wood shims and glue them in the slot. I prefer to use the shimming method, I think it's a bit neater and easier.

I had a problem with my Martin years ago. I took it to Gryphon in Palo Alto, and I think they just used some Super Glue to fill in a nut slot.
If you have some, you might try it on a test piece. I'm not sure if you can file it back down or not after it hardens.
I'd personally just buy a new nut..
Got an old guitar nut you've been unable to toss out? Or something made out of bone?
Take a piece of sandpaper and create some bone dust. Mix up some epoxy.
It seems that the epoxy that is slower to set up is harder once it's set up...I wouldn't use 3 minute epoxy, though that would probably work. I prefer the stuff that takes a few hours to harden...it's harder.
Create a thick slurry of bone dust and epoxy.
Tape off the sides of the guitar nut you'll be working on so you don't make a mess.
Clean the old nut slot...maybe even widen it a little.
Fill the slot with the epoxy/bone slurry and let it set up over night.
File yourself a new nut slot.
Super Glue can be substituted for epoxy but epoxy is harder and lasts longer.
Super glue and baking soda works great. The baking soda helps catalize the glue and seems to make it hard enough yo withstand a nuclear attack. Now where is my nuc...

Baking Soda speeds up the set time of Super Glue. It acts like the accelerator they sell in little spray bottles.
I've used both and the bone dust/epoxy trick seems harder and seems to last longer.
At the risk of being redundant,(I didn't read all the other posts),clean the slot, pack with baking powder and put in a drop of super glue.
Let it sit for a few minutes and with recutting and sanding you'll never know it was done.
