Hey guys,

Can anyone throw me some info on what Vinnie Moore uses in the studio for recording? What is his background history too? I found him on CDnow.com and listened to some of the clips from his quot;Mazequot; album. I am definitely going to order that CD as well as Greg Howe and Lynch/Pilson quot;Wicked Undergroundquot;. Can anyone reccomend any other guitarists to check out besides Satch, Vai, Johnson, Malmsteen and Petrucci? I am trying to get into diffrent prog/shred guitarists now.

VM is terrific! He's melodic and has killer chops; a totally unique player.

He's been playing Music Man guitars and Engl amps lately. On the older stuff, it's Ibanez and Laney Pro Tube heads.

i like Vinnie, although I wouldn't call him or his tone unique, I really admire his playing. My fav CD of his is Time Oddesety. Those old pictures of him sure are funny, though.

I like Jason Becker's stuff and Tony McAlpine has a cool style. Intense Chops.

Agreed on all accounts.

One of the few of the Varney crew who didn't annoy the crap out of me. He at least had some melodic sensibilities like God..errm..I mean Yngwie. I think he used Marshalls on the first album, but Time Oddysey was def the Laneys (thats why I bught one...never ehard of Laney til' heard Vinnie played 'em)

I liked Paul Gilbert when he was with Racer-X (in fact I really liked the band as whole more than Paul in particular). Good guy as well. But I have to say Bruce Boulliet's (sp) style was more my thing. His Blues solo on that live Racer X album kills compared to Paul's wankfest with the Eventide in spastic mode....:vomit:

I saw him do a clinic years ago, and he was using Laney amps with fender guitars. Not that great tonewise. Great player, though. Vinnie himself recently admitted that he barely considered tone early in his career. I seem to remember seeing a more recent picture of him with old marshalls and a bogner in the background...

this is my fav Vinnie Moore release, Out of Nowhere:
you should also check out John Lowery (aka John5):Tony Macalpine kicks ass too!

Nuno Bettencourt.....EXTREME years....

I saw him with UFO last year. He sounded fine and did a great job, IMHO. I had never heard him play before that. He seems like a very friendly, appreciative guy too. He was using the Music Man and a Marshall JCM900.
