I'm not sure which gauge of strings would you recommend for this tuning? 11-5x, or 12-5x (The x is open for whatever gauge of heavy string you would suggest)?

What would be the main differences between the two? Tell me about the tightness/looseness of the strings and the tone difference if you can... am I asking too much?

i use 11-50 for E, so if i was gonna have a guitar in C all the time, id use 13's probably. any less would feel way too floppy

12-56 minimum.

Do you think that would be ok?

Yep... I use 10s in standard (25.5 scale)

12-56 are almost perfect for C#.. maybe a tiny bit loose for C but not what I'd call flabby.

so many things come into play when detuning all the time...sting guage, how you want it to feel, scale length, etc...

try the 12-54 and see what you think

I've used 12-56 for drop B and the tension was pretty good. I'd image it would be equally good for C standard.

But I agree with TGWIF; Try the 12-54's you have and then go from there.

I use 10-46 in E, 10-56 on a 7 string, and 12-54 in C.

I meant heavier for standard... I didn't know anything about lighter strings having better playability, I figured they were worse because they were just that. Anyway I guess I'll put the 12-54 on and then decide what works after that.

the 12-54 should be a good choice for C standard. I use the same gauge for playing in C and the feel is just right. I guess you won't run into any problems.

12-54 would work fone for most, I personally would find it too floppy (I play i2´s in standard)... I´d use 13-60 or heavier

What's the scale of the guitar?

I use 11-52 in every tuning. Everything bigger sounds, well, wrong to me.

I believe it is a 25.1quot; scale. A little out of the ordinary, but it works.

Nothing wrong with that scale. I'd start with 12-54, if I were you and liked strings that thick.

bah sissys with your thin 50-60 gauge low E strings....i was using the GHS zakk wylde boomers 11-70 on a 25.5quot; fat strat tuned CGCFAD and man did that kick ass! no flab just CHUNK! yes it was a little quot;xssivequot; but man did it sound HUGE and it's actually real easy to get used to those massive strings.

Actually I want to go up myself, but I need my nut re-cut first

Tbh, the only thing I hate about thick strings is a thick plain 3rd.. it just feels wrong for playing leads
