Last summer at a Garage sale i found a Roland GP8 preamp multifx units from the late 80's for teh big sum of $20-canadian. It is a one inch rack unit and has lots of toys. It is old but i have been told that the Effects are Analog and the unit is a controller, so it is like a bunch of Boss effect Pedals inside and a Controller. Some people on the net say it is a really great unit and even some pro session musicans still have them in their racks, so the stuff on the net said....
Anyway the unit seems to distort when i turn the EQ's low bass freq's up high..... either that or the amp's speakers are crapping out. But do you think it's worth it if i should i send this unit in for a look by a tech? I was looking at sending it in anyways to have a new power cord and a cleaning of the inside done.
The effects do sound like Boss units and if i can get it working right could i use it before the preamp of say my Marshall jcm 800?
Also what would be a great power amp for this unit to keep an eye out for used? I assume a mono tube power amp would be great to improve the tone of this solid state preamp unit.
The unit came with an FC-100 foot controller but it must be broken.... I had a friend make a new cable for it and it still does not work....
