.....If what you really mean is fat, warm, punchy, and smooth, without the toppy, clacky, thin, crispy, brittle, overly bottom-heavy, or overly mid-scooped tone that's often associated with quot;modernquot; sound (and that pockety-pockety, fork-on-plate noise the slap'n'jammer kids prefer)....I need a new P and J pickup and that quote pretty much describes exactly what I'm looking for.
It's going into an Godin 4 string (maple neck and body) and I'd prefer to stay passive, and it'll be used through an Ampeg SVT-2Pro and 6x10.
Right now I'm looking at either Fralin's or Duncan Antiquties.....so if anyone can impart any opinion/wisdom on them.....
.....also, is it possible to get an antiquites Pamp;J in a calibrated set?
All I can say is if you go with the Antiquities I suggest the standard version, not the Antiquity II. That's about as warm and vintage as you can get IMHO. I actually like the II's better but they are a little brighter with more punch (although not modern).
I'm not sure if you could get a calibrated set but it sure dosn't hurt to ask. In a PJ setup it definetely helps if the J pickup has a little extra output. I could inquire for you if you like ...
Also consider going with a set of warmer flatwound strings to kill the fork on a plate tone.

Thanks for the insight. If you could do that inquiry, it would be appreciated.
As for flatwounds......I'll stick to round thanks. I want vintage, but still aggressive. My main concern is the compression and scooping that seems to be going on in alot of modern pups.
