so...which one do you think has a darker tone... do you buy your strings by this fact, or is just their quot;lifetimequot; and strength...

thanks for the replies...

Neither...I use Ernie Ball Super Slinkys 'cause they are easy to play, used 'em since the 70's...tried Fender Super Bullets, kept breaking on me...back to SS. I thought fresh strings had brighter tone, no matter the brand...they make strings with dark tone?

you could use pure nuickle strings, they are more money but are pretty mellow, but still bright when new, you could also look into ground or half wound or maybe even flat wound...those are pretty dark sounding

I like Everly B-52's when gigging. They last for ever and have a mellower sound to them than the D'Addario's I had been using.

For recording or when I'm feeling like I should do something extra special, I use DR's Pure Blues. They are soooooo easy to play and they sound great. ANother plus is that since they have round cores, they stay in tune a bit better and are nearly impossible to break (trust me, I've tried to ).

They cost a bit more and last less than the Everly's, but man do they sound great.

Black Diamond =P

I use d'addario because they fell the best and last long for me.

If you want a quot;darker tonequot; try boiling your new strings (before puting them on the guitar lol) for about 10-20 min.

You could also try Flatwounds by Gibson, D'Addario etc. I had some Gibson flatwounds on a guitar for awhile and they are very dark.
