Anybody put a metal cover on your humbucker? Is it possible to ruin a pickup this way? What kind of solder do you use? Is it the same stuff you use for soldering the pickups cable?
Thanks
Same solder you normally use. You'll want to scuff sand both sides of the inside of the cover where the drop of solder will attach and also both edges of the baseplate of the pickup so the solder flows easily. Also: if you are not going to wax pot the pickup at least put a piece of 1/2quot; masking tape inside the cover across the area where the slug polepieces will be. That will help prevent squeeling due to the cover vibrating and creating microphonic squeeling when you turn and face your amp when you are playing at high volumes. Clamp the cover on tightly before soldering.
