Who has the best price on the Original Floyd Roses these days?
Thanks,
Steve
used or new? Used is almost always eBay
Sorry, which retailer has the best price on new OFR's.
Is there anyone who is cheaper than $170 for chrome / $180 black? (Nut included)
thanks,
Steve
AFAIK Ed Roman has them cheaper, ... I and some others prefer to go elsewhere, but others have no qualms with him... decide for yourself
Any other suggestions?
I think Carvin is the cheapest. Last time I checked, they sold their licensed version and also the Original Floyd.......plus, they specialize in mail order, so you'll get it quickly.
I get bombarded with Carvin catalogs!!! I knew they were good for something!! LOL
here's the link.

wow 170 dollars... The cheapest I have seen in Europe was 230 euros for a Schaller, not OFR... (though they're the same now aren't they?) which is close to 260 dollars I think.
(though they're the same now aren't they?)
Always has been as well

They´re slightly different trems, but both are manufactured by Schaller...
is significantly cheaper, BTW
Muahah merci
Though I can get a deal on a Kahler Spyder for less than 150 euros ( I won't say the price ), I think that may be a better idea for now... If there are any left, ouch...
Yes and no... if anything ever breaks on teh Spyder you´re **** outof luck, I personally donßt really like the pyder or killer (too many movable parts for me), tone and response are different...BTW, if you´re wanting it to retrofit the JT-6 then I´d stop thinking about it right now, there´s a reason ALL JT-6 retrofits are OFRs or Schallers ;the spyder has different measurements and will almost certainly require woodworking to get the necesary arm clearance in the rout.....
Oh... a friend of mine just replaced his JT580LP by the Spyder and the post spacing was the same. He had to file out some wood though, but that was in the recessed cavity which I don't have. I thought the Spyder would then fit too, though I wasn't sure if the spring block would be long enough.
Ah well... 170 for a Schaller, I had indeed never seen that cheap. Thanks a lot for the tip!
By the way I received my two Dan Erlewine books today
Edit: why are the Gotoh FR more expensive than the Schallers?

POST SPACING is the same on almost ALL floyd roses from the cheapest import up to the most expensive platinum plated made in Unexistia unit.....
My memory my be failing me, but the JT580LP and JT-6 are 2 totally different trems... One is a standard Lo-pro design and the other one is a further deveopment of the original OFR design in a different way... THe block on a JT-6 is notably smaller than on a Jt-580, and even more so compared to the spyder.... the spyder also has a much larger footprint (which, as you correctly noted, doesnt´really matter because non-recessed)
Again, I´m worried about bar clearance more than anythiong else, as well as how the Kahler knife edges would work with the JT-6 posts...... Wasn´t the Spyder also the quot;differentquot; unit that had the knife on teh post and the groove in teh trem? That would mean doweling and redrilling the holes.....
Ah well... 170 for a Schaller, I had indeed never seen that cheap. Thanks a lot for the tip!
I would honestly expect most europeans to know Rockinger, as they have an almost Charvelish reputation in some circles and have been around almost as long as Warmoth...

Enjoy, esp the quot;Guitar Player Repair Guidequot; will keep you busy for a while
Edit: why are the Gotoh FR more expensive than the Schallers?
@ rockinger: Because the Schaller is Made in germany and the Gotoh is made in japan = Gotoh extra shipping costs and more importantly CUSTOMS fees... the schaller costs about a dollar to get there from Schaller, the Gotoh on the other hand costs about 10 dollars extra just to get TO Germany and another 30 or so for quot;admissionquot;
Alright, it looks like I can start saving up Thanks for the tips. Schaller it shall be. I hadn't heard of Rockinger yet I only knew allparts UK, Voxhumana for Holland that's it... They're German ja? That means no customs muahaha...Thanks again.

You are.... Floyd Rose is not owned by Schaller but by Kramer or Fender (I keep forgetting)
Since about 1985 or so Schaller has been contracted to manufacture the Original Floyd under License
Fender has the org Floyd now.
But as Zerb says it has always been made by Schaller since 85 ca on license.
