What do y'all think of them? I already have an SM-1 in the neck of my 50's style solid paired with a Jerry Donahue at the bridge. I also have a MIJ 69 Thinline re-issue that I put a Hot Tele set into, and while cool, I was thinking of doing something a little more left of center.
Here's what I was thinking:
Order a pearl pickguard routed for a humbucker from Warmoth to replace the standard one.
Install a nickel covered Pearly Gates at the neck, Lil' 59 at the bridge, and A Fishman Powerbridge for acoustic sounds. The stitching system for the mags will be a 5 way Megaswitch model P (PRS style switching) with a stacked tone and volume knob, a 3 way mini switch to toggle between the mags and piezos, a master volume for the acoustic saddles, and a stereo jack to put it all together.
The only other thing I can think of would be to use locking tuners to replace the standard Schallers I have on it now, though I think that they're doing fine where they are.
Anybody else have any ideas for modding their Tele?
Wow, no tele modders?
come on xessive get in here
Did you just say quot;mutantquot;?
My custom modified tele will not be called such a thing

I only call 'em mutants in the dearest, most respectful manner. Besides, some modded guitars look downright weird.
all my teles are quot;twistedquot; in their own way but each one has one thing in common...hot rails for tele in the bridge!!! what a kick a$$ pickup!! also mini humbuckers are great in the neck of a tele! i love odd teles that don't sound anything like a tele!! i am the antitwang hehehe!!your plan sounds good to me!

You guys would laugh at my tele...... I got a Peavey tele style body.... It's pretty close to a Fender tele but slightly different..... Got it from a tech that worked for Peavey and the box says it was ash.... They got rid of it as the glue line sunk in and you could see the line really well
I sat on that body for years as no necks i ever came across fit...... Until i walked into the local shop and they had one of those Fender Acoustic guitars shaped like a strat that had been smashed... The neck is shaped like an electric but slightly different specs so it will not fit a Fender Electric... Oddly it fit this Peavey tele body.... The bridge Peavey had routed this thing for was a lot different then the bridge i used... i stuck a modern 6 saddle tele bridge with a humbucker slot.... added 2 Duncan 59's and that is about it... The pickguard is tortoise shell and the body is black and the neck has a strat headstock.... Looks cool and sounds great! People think it's a custom Fender until they start taking second looks at the odd shaped body and then they have no idea what it is..... Besides the cost of the pickups this thing almost cost me nothing to trow together....

My number 1 is a 1992 MIM Standard Tele that I quot;Routedquot; (With a chisel) for dual humbuckers and installed an EMG 81 in the bridge (Bridge cut short with a Dremel) and an 85 in the neck. Both pups are white on the black body w/ white pickguard. Looks like Sh!t close-up but sounds killer.
Here's a pic:And one of all my Tele'sThe Kramer has a Tele HotRails bridgeand the stock neck along with the OFR (Stock)
The Vintage 'Burst has a GFS Lil' HOT Puncher in the bridge and a Dimarzio FastTrack2 in the neck. I'm planning a swap of the GFS and Hotrails and a budy of mine is swapping me a Neck HotRails for the FastTrack. So, the Tele will be all SD.
Should sound good.
oh man a kramer tele with a floyd...drooooooool...i've wanted one for the longest time. that one is real cool but i have and even bigger itch for a Mick Mars style with the one angle hum in the bridge!!

Mutant Tele's are the result of cloning aren't they?
my parts tele isnt a mutant...its a freak
oh ... and it still twangs like any other tele

My Bastardcaster is a combination of a QP Tele in the bridge, a HotRod Flame Bridge and Control Panel, Dunlop 6100 frets, Graph Tech Saddles and a Dremel! It's my primary guitar next to the LP Custom.
I'm in the process of putting a Firebird neck pickup in one of my Teles. Can't wait.

Anybody else have any ideas for modding their Tele?I've always thought that the PGn would be killer in a Tele!

I had a red Kramer tele with a floyd for a few weeks back in the late 80's..... This stoned out guy i used to know was making an album and he dropped it off at my house so i could change the strings for him. He had no idea how to change strings with a floyd on it. Since i owned a Kramer strat at the time he thought he would give it to me to change the strings. 2 weeks later he came by the house mad that i had not given back the Tele.... His album never went anywhere.... disappeared in red tape and pot smoke....
While i had that tele it was a nice feeling guitar.

I have 3 non-traditional (i.e., mutant) Teles. One has an Antiquity I flatpole lead and SM-3n mini-HB neck, another has a JD lead and Phat Cat neck, and the third has an STL-2 Hot Tele lead and stock Fender Atomic II HB neck (no pickguard). I also have two Teles with traditional pickup configs for those traditional moments...
Hi.... I saw a used Mexican Standard tele.... think it was a 1999 in a nice purple colour for a really good price.... But i was wondering if any of you tele modifiers know if any of the common tele replacement bridges -(for humbuckers) will screw into the same mounting holes as the Mexican Standard bridge..... I know i'd have to rout out some wood to fit a humbucker but i was wondering about the screw holes?
The only reason i'd buy this tele is for the body as it is a colour that i do not see everyday and would be a cool base for a custom job.....
