I have an american standard tele. I just bought a fralin blues special bridge from lew and a adder plus neck. I haven't installed either yet but was wondering if a P-90 would sound ok with the fralin bridge. I love the sound of the p-90's but never heard them in a tele. So what do you guys think? If it would be a good combo I want to try to trade the adder plus for one.

another idea I was thinking about was using the fralin bridge the adder in the middle and the p-90 in the neck. not sure how that would sound though. I don't have much money to experiment alot so any info would help out alot.

Hay MITM,
IMHO a P-90 neck in a Tele is a mess up.. it usally overpowers the bridge.. then its also too muddy for folks.

A 5-2 Nashville runs about 8k and it provides some of the best Tele neck tones today!
I've done the P-90 thing and the 5-2 nashville wasa much better.

I like the SM-1 mini 'bucker in the neck of a tele. It balances well with traditional tele lead pickups and has good clarity and cut while still having more beef than a normal tele rythm pickup.

i thought about a mini'bucker but i have never liked the sound of them for some reason. I may just stick with the tele pickups. I just always liked P-90's and always wanted a guitar with them. thanks anyway guys.

I have a a phat cat (which is pretty much a humbucker shaped p90) in the neck of my tele and it sounds awesome very much like a tele neck pup stock but fatter and more powerful for soloing, i love it for cleans and soloing (one of the best neck pickups ive had for a while) sometmes i can just play for hours on the neck pup cos it sounds that good.
The good think about it is it's so smooth but has alot of clarity and just enough bite for you to cut through. Great pup!

My experience with the 5/2 neck pickup was quite different from Buck's -- I found it dull, lifeless, and underpowered. I like the Antiquity rhythm that replaced it much better. I also have a Tele with a SM-3n Firebird-style mini-HB and a Tele with a Phat Cat neck pickup that sound excellent. Your American Std probably is already routed for a neck HB, so a Phat Cat or mini-HB would fit fine with a new pickguard -- a P90 will require routing of the neck slot as well as a new pickguard. In any case, I'd try the Adder before jumping ship, just so you know what you're dealing with.

You could try an underwound P90, about 7k. No need to custom order, just by a regular P90, open it up and take off about 1,000 turns.

thanks for the suggestions everyone I think I have decide to just use the regular tele pickups.
