I usually opt for a solid color rather than adding cost for a fancy top or finish, what about you guys? I find myself liking Les Paul studios a lot more than other models for that reason also.

I also ask because I was going to do this finish on a Carvin DC127 if I order one, but it adds substantially to the cost:
I love figured tops...... if you can get it, have it!!!

However, I must say, I don't particularly like that finish. Just my opinion though.

It depends on the guitar...i love a really good quilt or better yet, flame...but some guitars i like a natural or solid color!?

I don't care for insanely flamed or quilted tops like I used to, but I really like to see the wood of a guitar....so solid colors are out for me. In fact, once I sell my Hamer, the only guitar I own that won't show wood on the top is my LP Goldtop.

I like nice subtle flame with some nice mineral streaks...like on an old 50's LP. That's my favorite top. My Standard comes really, really close to that.

I prefer solid colors but that's not the most important factor, so if I had a chance to get the guitar I really want but it had to have an overly quilted of flamed maple top, I would still take it.

Rock On

I like natural satin and oil finishes the most. And maybe some natural looking (brown, sand, black, etc.) dye colours for ash. The rest seems artificial to me.

It doesn'y have to be fancy, but I like to see the wood too. I like to know what is hiding under that finish!

I really dig my Grosh's insane flame, but I'm finding myself going back to the traditional, bare bones look. The Gibson just fits quot;mequot; better and I love the natural mahogany grain and nice yellow dye that they use.

i think it 100% depends on the guitar...on a strat or tele, solid color for sure on a LP it can get away with either solid of fancy pants hehe...on something like and ibanez RG or jackson soloist to me i like them better in solid colors or graphics of some sort...although some of them with natural wood finishes just showing the simple grain looks good too...on an explorer or a V or SG i like a solid color or sometimes woodgrain showing but not flame or quilt.

I do like to see the wood through the finish. I'm not overly keen on some of the more over the top quilted finishes tho. I'd be afraid to play it.

I too like to see the wood amp; love a flame, but a Goldtop is sweet as hell too!!!!

I agree that it depends on the guitar, but if I had to choose, solid color. My opinions on how certain fancy quilt tops look vary, but I've NEVER gone quot;Black... ugh.quot;

I'm with the majority here, I really love to see some wood grain. However, the super flashy tops sometimes turn me off to the guitar, too glitzy. The only guitars I for sure prefer to be a solid color or at least a simple top is a Strat, a fancy top just looks weird with the pickguard to me for some reason.

i like the solid color look on a bare bones guitar like a tele. i do like looking at les pauls with nice tops but they just aren't for me.

for me it just depends on what the guitar is used for.

for instance, if i had a tele with a double QP set, yeah i'd want a sunburst finnish with a real nice maple fretboard

but for hard rock, i like guitars without any color at all, just black, white, grey, stuff like that. I'd even go so far as to dye the rosewood fretboard black (maybe some ebony stain) cuz it just looks cool to have a guitar without any color at all, just shades. Then you turn off every light in the room, except for drum kit lights, and jeez, it's like watching black amp; white tv

just so cool

but i picked solid colors, because sunburst is the only thing like that that i really like

I can't vote,I like them all.
I love airbrushing, but I also like good sunbursts,(KMCand Blueline do some killer work on bursts BTW),but some guitars just look great in a solid colour.
We've got a Mia Strat in the shop done in solid cobalt blue....if only I had an extra $1000.00-whine-**sob**
