I am putting a new guard plate on my JV Strat...it is black, with a maple neck/fingerboard. I really like the single ply white guards on everything except black...I am thinking about tortoise shell at this point...like I said it is black with a maple neck/fingerboard, and my new pickups will be here soon, I ordered them with Antiquity covers, and I'm gonna get knobs that match...so the question is, what color guardplate should I go with (I know it does not matter at all...but, I don't care for the white!). Also...does anybody know where I can get knobs that match the Antiquity pickup covers (please do not tell me about all the placed that sell quot;agedquot; plastic parts...if you have owned or do own a set of Antiquity's and got matching knobs, if you would please let me know where you got the knobs, and how close they match).

Thanks

Tortoiseshell all the way, bro!

BTW, if you have a Midnight Wine finished Fender, try out the tortoiseshell on that, too. Looks killer.

Tortoise on black is one of my faves, especially if it's a tortoiseshell that has a good amount of red in it.

tortoise or pearl on the guard ... I think pearl ties in well with maple, but I like pearl anyway.
you might try Kisekae to visualize it

for the knobs, Fender's aged white (no, they're not aged, just aged colored), or the parchment ones from Warmoth

Go with the Fu**** turtle!!!!!

I'd go with tortoise shell or maybe even a black pearl? That might be *too* dark though.

Black Pearl looks best on blue, imo.

Vintage Pearl would be nice on black, but I wouldn't care for a newish looking white pearl.

idk, but antiquity covers are very colored, not lightly aged.......so you want probably the darkest aged you can get......sorry cant help with where to get those

tortise shell, just like my 50's reissue. i am using the quot;aged whitequot; (read cream) that came with the guitar and they match pretty well but then again the antiquity covers do not all match so it looks right. You could also just age some cream knobs a little more with some earl grey tea. It will get real dark on the sides and the top won't change much. it is a nice touch for the aged look. Good luck GWIF

if you want a classic look go tortise for sure...but if your willing to do something a tad wilder go with red pearl (the darker red real fender guard not the warmoth or wd red pearl...it's too bright)...man it looks killer on black!!

Toroise shell is one of my all time favs. I had pearliod on my old black/maplenecked Strat, I liked it--gt; kind of flashy, kind of kind of classy.

Ionce saw a black Tele that had a snakeskin guard on it (like the one on my Jazz bass here )and it looked pretty good. Definitely an option if you're trying for something untraditional.

Spend no money. Send me the guard, and I'll return it, looking nicotine stained.
I've been messing around with my special blend of dyes, throwing all my old white plastic parts in a big pot on the stove. They're turning out pretty cool. Some stuff got a little too yellowed, so I'm backing it down by blotting it with bleach. I'm trying to get the authentic 40 yr old look. Yeah, I came back from jamming tonight and was bored....then stumbled upon a bag full of Fender plastic parts.
