I am replacing the magnet in my 59 with an Alinco 2. When I attempted to pull out the magnet, some of the wax from the pole pieces came off. It is the wax inbetween the magnet and the black plastic piece. Did I do something wrong? Why did they use wax around the pole pieces? How do I fix this?
the wax stops the pickups from becoming microphonic. Without it, you'll be getting a mass amount of feedback on your amp. You're going to have to take it to a place that does wax potting.
You may not even need to re-pot.
Re-potting is retarded simple. Just get a quart jar, candy thermometer and some canning wax at the grocery store. Boil water in a pot and pour the wax into the jar and put the jar in the water until all of the wax melts. Put the thermometer in the wax and bring the temp of the wax down to around 150 and put the pickup in the wax and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes and jiggle the pickup by its lead until most of the bubbles are out. Put the pickup on some clean paper towels to dry and cool. Then use a razor blade to trim away excess wax on the face of the pickup. Then use some wd40 and a ball of cotton to clean off the face of the pickup.
Put the pickup back in the guitar after about an hour cooling and then let it sit until the next day. The wax will harden and dry out and you can then judge how it sounds.

Alright, I have bee's wax. Can't I just use that. Well, actually, I have a fantastic mother, who is rather crafty with well crafts. She has all these gizmos and what not. She said she could do it for me. The wax only fell off on the outer edges of the pole pieces on the outer edge. All the wax in between is still there. Why is this not explained further when discussing how to remove a magnet in the FAQ? They make it sound so simple. I am dissapointed with SD for not going into greater length. Oh I am removing the magnet from the CC. Then placing it in the 59.
Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it
Well it was considered a given thats why it wasn't mentioned. Bees wax is good because it doesn't dry out and get as brittle over time but you still might want to only go maybe 20% bees wax 80% parafin wax. I always use a jar beacuse then I can just leave the wax in the jar and then its ready for my next project or date with Jenna Jameson.

Ah, Jenna Jamison....Maybe? I think I would prefer Penelope Cuise and some breakfast taco's after the casual wake n bake. Hmmm. Yep. I could definately go for that. But I wouldn't cry over spilt milk. Jenna can call me anytime.
i'm pretty sure you won't have big feedback problems. you didn't loose a lot of wax, and you didn't loose any from around the coils. that's what really important. switch your mags, toss the pickup back in your guitar and see if it squeals much. i doubt it will.
Let us know if this works out. And if your mom will re-pot our pups too! And if she's hot. I figure I have a way better chance with her than either Jenna or Penelope....
That little bit of wax won't hurt it at all. Just blast it with a hairdryer for 3 minutes afterwards, and you'll be set.
Everything turned out fine. I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind, just like the time I said I was only having a few friends over and 50 or so ended up coming out. What did she do. She made sandwiches for every stumbling drunk. Then after the drunks had sobered up and left, she brought out cookies for the pot-heads. Haha! I love my mom. Friends don't let friends drive drunk, or stoned. We usually don't worry about those that are drunk and stoned, they usually pass out before making it to their car.
Oh, the 59 A2 turned out fantastic. Some say the CC has a buttery tone and 59 with a more classic, edgy tone. But, when these two combine there powers, you end up with an quot;Old Fashion Vanilla Ice Creamquot; tone. I should put a trademark on that term.
Isn't a 59, with an A2 mag, just a PG?
I tried a PG and wasn't very satisfied. I could have been something quot;at the timequot;, but never the less, I am satisfied with the 59 A2. A wise man told me long ago, listen with your heart, not your mind. Haha! I would be interested to know the differnce though between the PG and 59 A2.
I'm pretty sure a PG is not quot;Just a 59 with an A2quot; But it's probably close...If you've seen the 15K REAL 59 post, I believe the Rev Billy G. had one of those slightly hot ones in Paerly Gates. That's what the PG is modelled after.
I love the CC, and I really like blending it with a neck PG in both pups on mode. But if you cando that all in one pup - awesome. Tragedy to lose some of the uniqueness of each pup though....
And the part is at Remingtonbo's place! Bring your squealy pups. You still didn't tell us if your momn is hot.
Hmmm.....Do you think YOUR mom is hot?....Haha! I think you can answer that one yourself. Mom...Hot...IMO? No, but my father would be the first to disagree. She is a beutiful woman, but hot, I couldn't think of my mom in that way.
Guitar turned Is Your Mom Hot Forum.....Hmmm..No
Ace, I have good news. You can have it both ways. I'm such a retard, I wondered why I didn't think of it before. Hybrid. I will be taking one coil from the CC and one from the 59, then combine the two together to create the most powerful pickup the world has seen. Well, close enough. But, yeah, I like this hybrid theory. I now have something to do when I get bored of my pickups.
Be sure to check out from : localhost//forum/s...ad.php?t=53166
And Lew's CC vs 59 is also a great thread on this subject. I find all of this magnet swapping a bit freaky. I can generally find tonal bliss with a quot;stockquot; replacement pup and tweak of a tone knob...
And no one would think my mom is hot (maybe Dad - maybe not). But my Duncan pickups are Hotter than Hell!!!!!!!!
