vote for which delivers more whoop a$$ to yer ears?
The EMG 81 has the mist raw unadulterated power. It is meaty and bassy and has the most balls.

some feel these have a quot;OD pedal on all the timequot; feel and tone?
Custom with the big ceramic. Not vintage sounding by any means, but if clarity with balls is what you want from a passive, this is it.
The 85 or 81 from EMG are pretty killer too, especially with the SPC control.

you know what i tried this and it was quite quot;ass whoopingquot;
i guess i was biased then becuase i went from PAF like to a tone zone on lucifer
acid with the swap.
but thinking back i may try one again wth a more open mind
after all i do remember it was NASTY
custom ,with a big smile in my face
hey i forgot to add to list what AMP you use
I use two full stacks(marshall zw 800 and a 5150)and drive em hard

Hey madguitar26 - I guess that means you liked the Custom you bought! Glad to hear it, man.
My vote is for the DD -haven't ever played EMG's.
Wicked Lester: you're right about those MJ pups having extra mojo. I found a bridge DD-J from the '80s, and a Seymourizer-J neck from way back, and they are SMOKIN! Truly a**-kicking. So thanks for that tip!
But you won't go wrong with a Custom either. I wouldn't kick a Custom out of bed. You could truly rock a million faces with either one.
And plenty of respectable people rock hard with the JB and EMG's, As long you crank things up properly, you can rock with ANY pickup, right?

yeah man the older DD's are the bomb i just wanted to hear what others are using to whoop a$$
i voted DD obviously
the custom was a tamer version of a DD to me
I voted. But I'm not telling for what.

Played 'em allCustom without a doubt...
I've played all of them but the DD. I voted 81.
Mesa Rectifier and Laney Iommi.....with Les Pauls and Strats.
Out of these I have none, but I'm getting a Custom soon... and after I shall try a FullShred with a Ceramic magnet.
I'm going to vote quot;none of the abovequot;. Whoopin' @ss tone requires an amp that'll whoop @ss. Gimme a Strat with a 59 Model through a Marshall or Bogner and it'll whoop some @ss. Put one of the 4 in the poll through a crappy amp and the only thing you'll be whoopin' is your own @ss for not getting a better amp.

They do. To be honest, I hate the pickup. I just think they best suit what this poll asks.
Never played the DD, but I played an ESP M1000 with dual 81s on saturday and that thing freaking owned.
Playe em all...Custom, without a doubt.
Though the Custom 8 owns em all
Custom 5 or Seth Lover through the wall of tonal devastation!Honestly, the two most crushing bridge pickups for 6 strings are the 85 and Custom.
I find the 81 to not be chunky enough for me (although it sounds great recorded!)
The JB isn't as bad as Odie and I make it out to be. It just needs some more balls! Again, this pickup sounds *amazing* recorded.
The DD... I used to like them. Now I just find them harsh and shrill, for some reason. Never heard it recorded for the type of music I listen to.
