Ordered a handmade Plexi with more gain on tap at higher volume, but it has a master volume so I will hear them at lower volumes. It is built by builder Ed Giller...

Features:
50 watts
2x6l6s
2 preamp tubes, 12ax7s maybe? Cant remember.
Master Volume
Reverb

The best feature? $600!!!!

I will post review upon its arrival!

Congrats man.

Those specs don't seem to be exactly like a plexi though, Plexis have EL34s and no master volume or reverb. Still, that should be one killer amp, with a higher level of versatility than the average plexi.

I want to know how you got a Plexi WITH reverb and still only have 2 preamp tubes?!

My question as well. Your description doesn't sound like a plexi...

ROFL, , maybe this guy payed for something completely else than what he wanted?

Two power tubes and two preamp tubes and it's being called a quot;Plexiquot; clone?

No wonder you only paid $600, you only paid for 1/2 of the amp.

Wel, before we all jump on the bandwagon, maybe the builder just got the number of preamp tubes wrong. I'm guessing minimum 4 to do anything Plexi/JTM related with reverb.

As for my own information, I'd love to see some pics of the final results when you get it. I'm rather amazed that he can sell it for 600 bones. If he can, I need to find out who supplies his parts cuz I'm taking it in the shorts on that one obviously. Either way, good luck and let us know how it turns out.

from : localhost/like he builds Matchless clones in very simple cabs. I googled his name and he is well spoken of regarding his builds and prices. It looks like Hammond is the primary iron in it.

You will definetly have to make some clips, I've been GASing for a Plexi clone for a while now.

It may depends on whether or not you count the phase inverter as a preamp tube. Strictly speaking a plexi uses two preamp tubes, and the phase inverter tube is part of the power amp. They may have omitted mentioning the phase inverter tube? A fifty watt plexi uses two output tubes. By adding a little extra gain, reverb, and a master, it isn't strictly speaking a quot;plexiquot;, but more like a 80's modded Marshall type amp in sound and features.

If you build a circut with only one input and one pre-amp volume control (probably voiced like the plexi treble channel) you can get by with one preamp tube and one phase inverter tube. You could allow the signal to overdrive the pahse inverter a bit with the preamp volume cranked too, although this would be a noisey mod in most cases.

It is a known mod to install an master volume after the phase inverter on plexi circut amps, so that's also possible. What I would want to know, is how the reverb works without added tubes, unless they are using op-amps there?

Well, I emailed him, I am sure we will get it cleared up...

And BTW, I special ordered the master volume and reverb and 6l6 on it....

And I should have said Plexi VARIATION, not Plexi clone..

Got it all straightened out...I was mistaken! heres the true specs

-3 preamp tubes, including the phase inverter
-1 12AX7 stage instead of 2 12AT7 stages in parallel like the usual reverb circuits use(using the 2nd input stage as the reverb driver)
-the dry amp; reverb signal are mixed via the reverb control before going into the master volume amp; then the phase inverter.

Its a variation, but apparently they are great.

That sounds right. Let us know how it plays.

Sounds like a killer amp!

Sweet man, I'm definitely looking forward to hearing what you think of it. I've been having the plexi pains recently
