I've only had it in for about 15 minutes, so this isn't really a review - just me saying - I love it!.I'm surprised at how quot;Strat-soundingquot; this pup is. All the high-end chime and jangle of singles. Better than some singles I've tried. And it looks killer with the two Cool Rails.

I haven't finalized my switching sytem yet, so more to come. But I'm lovin' these 'rails.

Artie

P.S. Special thanks to forum bro Kindred Spirits for the VR.

thats awesome. how does it work (soundwise) with the cool rails? that might be my next setup.

is it the angle, or is there a switch where the 2nd tone knob should be?

I wanted to save any in-depth review for after I've had it awhile, but I can make some initial observations.

I've had quite a selection of pups between these two Cool Rails, trying to find quot;thatquot; perfect match. I've tried SSL-6's, (tapped and straight), SSL-1, Lil 59, Lil PG, Classic Stack, and a Hot Stack. The VR does the best job of producing authentic Strat tone. Which surprised me. (Let me qualify that by saying - quot;when combined with the CR'squot;.) If I have the two CR's on by themselves, they have a distinctive quot;spankquot;, or quot;punchquot;. When combined with the VR, they lose that. Or I should say, the VR quot;buffersquot; their output. But it's a good blend.

I'm gonna hold off on saying any more 'til I can wring them out better, but for now . . . I believe I've found my personal favorite Strat setup.

Thats my temporary middle-pup-switch. So I can have all three on at once. My favorite setting.

The VR's are very over looked pickups IMO

Artie, I still want to know why you didn't go with a push/pull pot. You find you just don't need a second tone pot, I take it?

Under normal circumstances, that would make sense, but I have a specific switching system in mind for this Strat. It's just something I've wanted to try. Whats in it now is temporary, so that I could try all pup combo's, including neck/bridge, and all three.

When I get it finalized, I'll post the schematic and results.

But on a side note, I tend to be a master volume/master tone kinda guy.

P.S. Since I play through a modeller/mixer, I never touch either of those also.

I agree. And they happen to work really well in the middle position. That's probably why PRS uses them in the middle on their Swamp Ash Special.

Sweet Artie, im sure that setup sounds awesome! And it looks awesome as well!

Im glad my pickup found a good home.

I'm really considering putting one of these in either the middle or the neck of a three-pickup, all humcancelling Tele. I want to do two strat pups and a Tele bridge and I think one of these plus a duckbucker would do well for the neck and middle. I just can't figure out which one would do better where.

Thanks. I think this one is a quot;keeperquot;. Originally Posted by St_GenesiusI'm really considering putting one of these in either the middle or the neck of a three-pickup, all humcancelling Tele. I imagine that would sound great. You wouldn't believe how many times this Strat has been apart. Sometimes, you just gotta try everything to find quot;thatquot; perfect blend. Its some work, but the results are worth the effort.

We've thought about it. The problem is the smaller size of the Tele Rhythm pickup makes it too hard to smash two coils together.

Also, Tele players, much more so than Strat players, like their guitar to look quot;stock.quot;

Yes I'd like to hear that baby in action That's a nice looking guitar Artie.. glad you like the new pickup

I sold a set of VR to an intern guy last year. Is the newly designed VR available in market now?
