well, while flipping through the new guitar world i see an ad with joe satriani in it for dimarzio pickups and i notice the pickup shown in the picture has chrome plastic bobbins...very cool....not a chrome cover over them but the actual bobbins are chrome and that most of the dimarzio full size hums will be offered this way now...anyway, this lead me to think can we petition SD to add this color option to their line b/c man it looks killer...better do it before dimarzio turns double chromes into the next double creams lol.
it's either that or i have to buy a dimarzio and send it to duncan to be rewound lol...how sinful would that be hahaha

Wow... that sounds pretty cool. How about different metallic colors? Like a purple/chrome zebra?
Whoa, colored chrome would ROCK!
that's it? only 2 guys think this would be cool for duncan to offer if they can?
-Mike
DMZ may have that colour trademarked, just like the double creme.
(How you can trademark a COLOUR is beyond me)

No, just white or zebra...I think the crome colors would be awesome!
yeah i hope dimarzio didn't TM another color...that still confuses me how they got away with that...
so, Evan, can we get chrome bobbins or did dimarzio TM it?

Well, they claimed that players quot;knewquot; DiMarzio simply by the double cream bobbin humbuckers. DiMarzio said that if any other manufacturer started producing their pickups in the double cream motif, the consumer might just think he/she was buying a DiMArzio; when in fact, they would be buying a Duncan, Gibson, etc... DiMarzio siad that it would unfairly hurt their business.
How they got away with it? They actually didn't. Every time they would go to court, Seymour would win. However, DiMarzio would appeal and lose.....appeal and lose....appeal and lose. But, being that DiMarzio was the biggest fish in the pond, with the deepest pockets. The other manufacturer(s) couldn't keep playing....

Yeah... we could pettion Duncan to add this color but Duncan makes it more of a hassle to get quot;other colorsquot; (green, blue, yellow etc) then its worth.
Where as Dimarzio makes it easy as hell to get the quot;other colorsquot;.
Duncan sucks in that area.
Well, i have a great solution for getting your own Duncan creme colored bobbins!!!
You need:
-A cup of strong, black coffee
-Two white duncan pickup covers\bobbins
-patience
You just put the pickups (please use the ones that'll be on the guitar at the same time ot get the same color) into the cold coffee, and wait a day, then check the color. Put them into the coffee another day if a deeper color is needed

They do, but they have to ship them with pup covers on them. You can always pull the covers off.
I also think it would be cool to have chrome bobbins, at least for certain applications. I saw a strat the other day with a chrome pickguard. They would look awesome in that.
Count me in. I want them too.
What do we have to do to get those??
I've always wondered why they don't just make the bobbin core, and the bobbin topper two separate pieces to begin with. You could buy toppers of any color, including chrome and colored anodized aluminum, and cutomize your pups to your hearts delight.
No one could quot;trademarkquot; any color because the end consumer would be the one who determines colors and combinations.
from : localhost/down to the bottom, quot;pickup caps or bobbin topsquot;.
Sounds cool to me. I do like the idea.
AND, I never knew about that DiMarzio/Creme pickups junk. But i could never find a creme SD pickup. Thats just about the dumbest thing. Some stupid stuff happens in the courts. LOL
Erlend, does that coffee trick really work?
1 here.... Chrome would just rock. Even that metallic silvery colour on Vai's anniversary Jems would be cool to emulate.
