Is it just me or does anyone else have a strong dislikeing on a squires neck... I can't stand the things. Probably the worst necks I've ever played on. I don't mind the sound for the price. but they aren't very nice looking and they aren't an easy guitar to play compared to some. Is it just me?

Nah dude, i went up to my shop the other day, they got some new model squiers in, they played and sounded like ASS. I played them through a Marshall Stack, and then a VOX AC 30 ( the guy at the shop has one laying around, not for sale unfortunatly )

I love mine but it´s a 2001 I think.

The Squire necks have a Thiner Nutwidth than A fender strat does.

Fender = 1 11/16quot;
Squier = 1 5/8quot;

And to Me thats a big difference. I hate the squire necks for this reason alone. I've got Huge fingers, so the thinner nut width Makes it really difficult to play any open chords without accidentally muteing a string or too. I supposued if I got used to it I'de be able to change my playing style to suit the neck. But I see no reason to do that.

The nut width is Probably why others don't like em too. Its weird, Most guitars have a widernut so These feel like broom sticks once ya get used to the others. But, Squiers are really intended for Beginers and students, SO they're probably assumeing kids (smallers hands) will be buying these guitars more than Adults. Or I could be wrong. Perhaps its some odd way of saveing money. I dunno.

edward.

I think the '51 necks are very playable, although I would agree that the strats that I have tried out I have not been impressed with at all, they just feel cheap amp; uncomfortable.

Oddly enough, the affinity tele has an excellent, very playable neck, I would stack it up against my MIM strat easily.

A lot of squier people like the strats, I have never picked one up and been impressed by the sound or the quot;feelquot; of any of them. IMO you're better off just spending another $150 to get a real good, playable guitar.

But, models like the '51 definitely don't sound like quot;assquot;, they are made well and have a very usable unique tone all their own, very tele like but with a lot more quot;airquot; underneath it.

I hate the neck on my squier strat... that's actually one of the main reasons I'm considering dumping it in the future... that and I want an american series neck.

I have a '98 Squier Affinity Strat that I actually am very fond of. But that view may be colored by the fact that it was my very first guitar, so it has a great sentimental value. I could never part with it, and play it a lot. Through some subtle upgrades I think I've made a very good guitar out of it (changed the pickups, nut and tuners, and next week the switching). The neck is very stabile on mine, and feels pretty much 'OK'. Not good, but definitely not bad.

i have an 03 affinty strat from the strat pack, and i agree that the nut width is quite thin, especially compared to my jackson, but i think that the guitar is very playable for certain types of music. maybe it's just becuase it was my first guitar and i spen over a year playing it???

Oh, I forgot to mention nut width is not a problem with mine. What WAS, however, is that Squier just outfitted my lefty Strat with a reverse righty nut, LOL. As the nut does not have a flat top, the guitar was not properly intonated with that original nut. That's solved by outfitting it with a graphite nut.

I have a Squier (and a MIM) and I use the Squier for alternate tunings. I think the neck is fine, its feels a bit skinnier and a bit quot;flatterquot; than the MIM.

I had a Squier Bullet Special (the blue, 1 pickup one) and it had a pretty smokin neck.

I have a MIJ Squier from the 80's. It's a short scale and very small in the neck. It practically plays itself.

I also have a 2005 Squier strat that has a great flame on the neck and is very playable.

I have a 1994 MIM Squier Strat... they made Squires for 2 years or so when they didn't have an overseas contract..... I use it a fair bit when i jam at bars and stuff.. Anywhere that there is a chance i may damage or lose a good guitar.... It's pretty much the same guitar as a MIM standard now that i changed the bridge and tuners.....

The early 80's Squiers where great guitars for the money...

New Squiers I do not like that much..... hate the cheap hardware on them... But i have seen some where they are trying to offer a better guitar.. i saw a few teles that look OK for Squiers.....

Probably, a lot comes down to whether you have to put up with it or not.

I don't have a choice right now, and my squier is all I've got for until Christmas, so I find it ok, because I've just forced myself to get on with playing.

At the end of the day, it's just an instrument... you can make it work.

Ah, who am I kidding. It sucks

I suppose it comes down to your neck preferances. Wasn't sure if it was okay for some poeple. I've got large hands and I can't stand them. I love the necks godin make.

i loved my cheap little strat, till i bought a better guitar, went back to it, and nearly slashed my hands open on the frets lol

I have an SQ series Telecaster. I also have very large hands...like...the old Jeff Beck model neck is perfectly comfortable to me.

That Tele has the holy grail of guitar necks on it. It's just totally huge and radiused gorgeously.

The other axe I have with a fantastic neck profile is a 2001 MIM Strat.

By comparison, the 73' Strat and my Clapton Strat necks I dislike greatly; had I the oppurtunity to buy the Clapton again I probably wouldn't and the 73' was such a steal...well...for the issue of an uncomfortable neck I'll deal with it!
