I'm looking for pup replacements for a Charvel Model A. The relevant specs for the guitar are:
24 jumbo frets.
1/8 maple top with mahogany body.
1 master volume and 1 master tone control with 3 way pickup selector.
Maple neck with Ebony fretboard.
Lice. Floyed Rose bridge.
Die cast tuners.
The stock pickups are 2 Livewire active pickups (one 9v batt per pickup).
While these pups might really kick it for serious metal, I would like a little more versatility. Sound comparisons for the kind of music I play is a range from Matchbox 20ish on the cleaner side of things, and Foo Fighters / Good Charlotte / Bowling for Soup-ish on the gain side (not exactly Metallica sounding). Maybe venturing into The Offspring territory every once in a while. I guess I go for more of an Alternative Rock style of high gain rather than a full out Metal style high gain.
There are so many options out there, I don't even know where to begin. Any suggestions to narrow my focus would be greatly appreciated!!
Maple neck ebony board floyd rose 24 frets...
Well if I were you I'd try out a CustomCustom in the bridge and a bridge a2 PAF clone in the neck (for example an alnico 2 pro or pearly gates bridge versions in the neck).
Do a search. There should be a lot of information on them.
Good luck.

BDead on to what I was going to say. I have a Carvin with a floating wilkinson and an all maple body and I use a PGb and a CC with great results.
Thanks for the replies, so far. This has a maple neck and ebony fretboard, but a predominently mahogony body. The maple cap is only 1/8 cap. Should I base it more on the neck (which is bright) or more on the body (which is warmer)?
