What should I get?
I like the '59 with the Custom, but already have that in another guitar, want to try something different. I really want to try the Pgn too.
Rock, hard rock.
CC/PGn, easy. Wanna hear it? Click the linky in my sig next in the Epi Les Paul line.
CC/PGn for me...
only tho cos you have a custom already...that would be my first choice..
I'm not sure I'd like the C-5 from what I've heard of it...
Custom Custom/Jazz. The custom/jazz is really nice in mahogany bodies as well. Is the epi LP mahogany?
C5/PGn. Their EQ curves balance pretty well with each other in a LP.
If you need a really warm, buttery tone though, find a low resistance PGb (circa 8K) and use it in the neck paired with the CC.

Another good combo (obviously, since that's what I use. ). My Epi LP is mahogany, I know that. It's easy to tell just by popping out the neck pickup and looking at the wire channel going to the control cavity from there. The pickup cavities are painted black, as is the control cavity.
CC/PG Got it, love it, can't say enough about it! Great tones for neck or bridge, but the blends are really killer! Use those volume and tones - that what they are there for - roll the volume down to clean up the PG alone, kick in the PG to add a little treble bite to the CC, lower the volume on the CC and mix it in with the PG for a super full mid - I can go on, but you get the picture!
I have a CC/pg combo in an Epiphone Les Paul and I don't really care for it. It sounds good and all, but the CC is a little thin sounding. I've had a Custom/59 combo in an Epiphone Les Paul and it rocks. I know what a jazz neck sounds like in an Epiphone Les Paul as well. Go for the Custom/Jazz man.
I know its not on the list but what about the Duncan Distortion for bridge?.. i have it in both of my Epi lespauls and I think it works great with lespauls. has this tight thick crunchy tone, specially with distortion. has a very natural sounding compression with Highgain tones..
Good luck!
I've worked on a few Epi Les Pauls. The best combo I've had in one was a Jazz neck or 59 neck and a JB! Really seems to work well in those particular guitars. They need a little oomph, IMO, and the Jazz n or 59 n and a JB work beautifully in those little Epis. Seriously: when I compared the Epi Les Paul I recently worked on to my own Les Paul Historic with mega-expensive Tom Holmes humbuckers I thought the Epi sounded pretty much equal to it. Hard to believe, but true...unless you listen with your eyes and not your ears.
I would go with a Alnico Pro II neck and CC bridge. At least for now.
I mean this with TOTAL love and respect
but...
I would drop the EPI LES PAUL. Why is this forum so in love with Epiphones? They are the worst tone and construction EVER! You can get an old Ibanez PF or Burny or Orville so much cheaper. Hell, get a GRECO! WOW!
You would love the pickups in those guitars! Esp the GRECO!
That being said, anyone in here wanna tell me what a PG neck sounds like? OR can you play metal with a PG bridge, and still get a nice chunk.

That's a pretty broad statement, bro. I went to Brook Mays today and played 4 Gibby LP Stds, 2 Studios, a PRS CU22, a couple of Ibanez SZ's, an Epi LP Std, and an Epi LP Custom.
All guitars were played through a Marshall DSL 100 head amp; matching 4x12 cab.
I guess you had to be there, but in stock form, the best sounding guitar was the Epi Custom. I'm not saying the rest were dogs, but the most balanced and sweet sounding one was the Epi. BTW, the finish was perfect and it was the lightest of the Lesters to boot.
Epiphone aren't my favorite brand... but I think they deserve a little more respect then that. Epi les pauls are actually quite nice.

Go have a listen to JOLLY's clips and have a listen to my clips (see my sig). Then tell us they have bad tone. Please, do some research then come back with some evaluation. I bet your opinion will be the opposite. Their quality has improved a lot since they started making them in the Epiphone China plant. Even the still-made Korean models have gotten better.
As for the PG, I don't have experience with the neck model but the bridge model is a 59 with some sizzle, a little more top end. Yes, it can do metal, through the right amp. Any pickup can do metal as long as you're playing through an amp that can do metal. I wouldn't play metal through a Bassman with a PG loaded axe but through a Marshall, Mesa, Bogner, Splawn, yeah, it'll do metal.

Matter of fact my Epi in question came from Jolly's private stock
Jolly recommended the Custom in that guitar as he had one in that same guitar. For now, I'll take his word for it.
I've decided on the Custom/Aph-1 for now.
Thanks for everyones help.

That sounds almost like you're talking about some burbon you bought from him. Is he makin' his own D!ckel now?
I think the Custom will do just fine. The APH-1 is one of my favorite neck pups for a LP.
