Well, I've played the living daylights out of my Schecter Damien and am now going to give my overall impression of the EMG HZ's in it. Quite frankly, they don't sound that bad. When playing chords or very fast riffs they stay very clear with my equipment, this can be due to the seemingly very low output of these pickups. I thought EMG's were all high output but these are about as low output as epi stock pickups, but they are voiced much much better. Full chords are clear under distortion and every note can be heard and is equally loud. They do not have a ton of bass response but I'm not a bass thumpy kind of metalhead so it doesn't bother me.
Now the things that just plain suck. These stupid things are void of any harmonics! I couldn't pinch a harmonic out of these things to save my life yet somehow on high strings they are just fine. That could possibly be my technique as I have always been able to get higher frets to squeel much better. The low output I happen to like due to my analness about clarity but I can see how people would hate that. My 2 cents, add to it if you can.
Get a set of active EMGs then you'll know why we think thoes HZs suck. Heh.

thanks. im looking forward to trying them myself in my ltd v350. Im used to the Jb/jazz combo which i have in my ltd ex right now, so it will be a nice point of comparison since ive never really played an active emg. I will write for sure!
I have a set in my Epi LP Custom....they are great and have plenty of harmonics. I got them free...so I aint *****in
