Has anyone tried this and can give me feedback and details on what it sounds like?
I've looked through The Vault threads but only one forum member seems to have used the pup in that position.
It will be for a mahogany-backed, maple-topped LP style guitar. Bridge pup may be either a stock no name low output humbucker, or possibly a high-output Gibson Iommi pup.
Thanks in advance for any inputs!

Jackson SL-4 has 2 JB's, including one in the neck. Pretty cool sounding, but pretty deep sounding in an alder with maple cap, so for mahogany guitar, likely would sound very dark. I wouldn't do it. I'd recommend reading the HC reviews, as well as any more input you get here.

Hoping you didn´t mean my review from the vault (it´s a bit hidden)
I like the JB alot better in the neck than I do in the bridge.
I think DeadSkinSlayer has one in the neck of his Rhoads, its in his sig.
I've tried it only on mahogany guitars... The JB on the neck it's very dark and not so clear... Depends what you are looking for, many metal players love the tone.
Thank you all for your responses. So there is hope that this may work! Great!

I dig it! Super super articulate and great for fast runs. Cleans are good, too. It's high output, which I like compared to the Jazz in my Schecter; it just packs a little more punch.
buy a duncan distortion NECK, and then change the big ceramic magnet for a standard size Alnico 5. you will get a JB calibrated for the neck position
RIGHT?
As far as I remember, the man himself (Jeff Beck) used it in the neck of his black Les Paul Custom when brought him the prototype...
Hans-Jürgen, that's interesting... if that was his setup on the Blow by Blow album, I'm definitely going to do this pup swap!
WITH FULL DISTORTION, i'm just trying to put to good use what's in my spare parts bin and experiment so I can determine whether I want to sell the guitar or not. Don't want to spring for any more new pups!
Thanks again, fellas.

I've never heard of it. Do you remember where you read this?
This story probably was told in an old german guitar magazine, either quot;Fachblattquot; or quot;Gitarre amp; Bassquot;. As far as I remember, it was himself who reported that, but of course this could all be wrong, because it's about 20 or more years ago.I would think it's possible if the guitar rather is on the bright side without amplification, and if the player likes that nasal tone in the neck position. And the amp shouldn't be cranked either...

No, a quot;JB Neckquot; would be a Jazz IIRC Originally Posted by hans-jürgenAs far as I remember, the man himself (Jeff Beck) used it in the neck of his black Les Paul Custom when brought him the prototype...
Hmmm, that´s very new to me.... I know of the Tele-GIb (JB/Jazz) on Blow by Blow, but the LPC I thought was still stock...

Yeah, that's the way I think about it. The Jazz neck is clear (likely emphasizing the upper registers) and the JB is a Jazz Bridge that's been overwound.

What he means, is that since a JB is just a DD with an A5, the DD neck with an A5 would essentially be a JB neck.
How does the JB sound in the neck of a basswood guitar?

I don't think this is true.

If you'd kindly direct yourself to the search function at the top of the page, we've had much discussion on this topic. The end line is that DD's, JB's, and Invader's all have the same coils, just different magnets, and in the Invaders, case, pole pieces.
