Well I searched the forum and couldn't find a topic similar to this, but since the MIM Jazz Bass has two congruent pickups instead of a larger bridge pickup (Like the American model and how j pickups are designed by SD), is it advisable to install a neck pickup in both the neck and the bridge spots? I was thinking like a Quarter pounder in the neck and a hot stack in the bridge, would this sound pretty cool?

It will only make a difference if you are mixing 2 single coils. The Hot Stack is a humbucker so you can mix it with the QP but your bass will no longer be hum cancelling.

I have a Hot Stack set in my Jazz bass and it is a killer sounding axe but I always wondered about the QPs.

For your best results and a bass that doesn't suffer from 60 cycle hum, get either a Hot Stack set or a QP set with the proper bridge and neck pickups.

Either way you'll end up with a killer sounding guitar.

You can actually install standard size jazz pickups in the MIM with some very slight modifications to the pickgurad and possibly a very minor amount of modfication to the bridge pickup route. I have done this on several MIM's and it's really not a big deal.

As said above, you can mix single coils and stacks but you will lose the hum cancelling effect on the single coil.

As an alternative Aero makes a really nice set of equal length Jazz pickups that are designed as a drop in for the MIM jazz. They sound great!!
