I know how the Lil 59 sounds as a bucker .. but not spilt.
How does it compare to a standard Strat single coil?
Thinner? Beefier? Same?
I've had a Lil 59 on my Tele that I have tried with coil splitting. It was definitely thinner than a normal single coil and not as beefy. For a humbucker sound, it was fine, but I found that splitting it wasn't as useful as I thought it was going to be. It lost the characteristics of a single coil. I ended up putting back the original, and use other guitars for humbuckers. But if that's all you got, it might be worth it. You might like it more than I did.
That's been my experience with a 'lil 59 as well. The hotter Carvin twinblade didn't do well, either. But then, most full size buckers don't thrill me split, either! They can often do better when mixed with a real single for quot;position 2 amp; 4quot; sounds, but that's another question, and also depends on the single. In this case the mini buckers might be OK - my 59 and twinblade weren't too bad in the neck mixed with a real center single.
