So I was hit by the Strat G.A.S this time, something about the simplicity of it and the sexy shape (The Black HH one on the Fender Site is beautiful).
I guess this is more about body wood than the actual guitars, but which would be better would be nice to know too. Basically what is bringing this question up is that since I want a Hardtail it is hard to find a body or even the whole guitar used. So since I'm spending near a grand anyway. I did a little math and I could get a Mahogany Warmoth Strat for not much more.
I play mostly modern rock, occasionally more poppy sounding, occasionally I use more EMG sounding distortion. (Think Panic! at the Disco for the Poppy side, Coheed and Cambria for sounding like Emg's). Needless to say this will be an HH Strat, (HSS depending on my mood).
So would the Alder Fender Stratocaster or the Mahogany Warmoth Stratocaster be better in your opinion?
I always like humbuckers better mounted directly to wood in mahogany.
I think it would be even better if you ordered a Warmoth body made out of mahogany with a thin flamed maple veneer. If you're not skilled at finishing, just find some stain in a color you like....like charcoal gray/black and do a rubbed on finish, then buff it with oil to remove all excess stain. I always like alder better for single coils, but humbuckers always sound fuller in mahogany. Throw a nice birdseye maple neck on it, and you'd probably spend far less than $1000 for a killer guitar. There's Fender parts dealers on Ebay that always have decent prices for tuners/bridges etc.
I'd probably go w/ Mahogany, though I am just about to finish up an Alder/maple strat rock machine
Yeah, I'm wondering how a Mahogany strat, Maple/Maple neck, HH, either Floyd or strat hardtail would sound? Obviously somewhere between a strat and a LP, but would it lie in the quot;goodquot; part of that range? I'm very tempted but that's a lot of cash to spend if the guitar sucks....

I'd probably throw a maple cap on the body, and a rosewood board on the neck to be safe. That'd sound great.
I have a mahogany warmoth strat body. Still waiting on the neck I ordered for it though.
Idk I think I'm going to keep the guitar just a Plain black with a plain black pickguard. Something about a Black Strat with Nickel Covered Pickups screams class to me lol, if you can scream class...Idk screaming isn't very classy....anyway. I really like the pic of the HH Strat in Black on the Fender Website so I'm goin with that.
I don't know if I should do the paint job myself, it is getting colder and colder up here and that's probably not good. By the time I got all the stuff it would be nearing the 10 degree marks.
