Hello,
I am replacing the two humbuckers in my 2004 Strat HH with SH2n and SH4jb. I am having troubles with what appears (???) to be an out of phase condition due to sound quality (very tinny) in certain switch selections. The strat has a S1 switch and a 5 way super switch. I guess the bottom line here is how does the color codes on the original fender humbuckers compare with SD humbuckers. I know they are not color coded the same. I would like to know which colors need to replace which in order to have them wired as the original Fenders to have the same pickup selection combinations with the 5 way and S1. Also, is there an issue with phase compatibility with the above mentioned S-D pickups compared to Fenders?
Assistance is greatly appreciated,
Thanks
Craig

I used that same information page when wiring which seemed to cause a few of the selections to sound way off base, especially with the 5 way switch selection 4 and the S1 switch up where normally the inside coils of the bridge and neck pickups are in parallel and the outside of the bridge pickup is in series. It just didn't sound right. I have another 2004 Strat HH that is completely stock and in comparing tones (in a gereral sense) the stock strat was much fuller tonally in the same switch selections. It seemed quite clear that something was just not right.
Let me run down if I gathered the information correctly based upon my interpretation of the web page link in the previous post.
If I substituted the following wire hookup based upon fenders wiring colors and Seymour-Duncans:
Fender.....|.....Seymour-Duncan
------------------------------
Green -------gt; Black
White -------gt; White
Black --------gt; Red
Red ---------gt; Green
So basically by looking at the wiring diagram on Fenders web site for the American Strat HH where it says to use the Fender Pickups Green wire I would use the pickups Black wire... ect... and so on as I indicated in the above color relationships. Correct?
Craig
Yes, you have the leads matched up correctly. Once you wire the SD's in and if you still have a phasing problem switch the hot and ground leads on your neck pickup. I have a Big Apple strat and I changed the PG and 59 out for a PG and Jazz. I had to swap the leads on the Jazz for it to be in phase with the PG. It because of the way it's wired to the multipole switch.
Swapping the hot and ground leads on the neck pickup just makes matters worse.
I'd like to be able to view a schematic for the complete wiring for Strat HH with the S-1 switch, 5 way super switch to go along with my Seymour-Duncan SH2n and SH4jb.

I would assume that the SD's would work unless there is something unique about the Fender pickups. You might want to e-mail SD for techical help.
Here's the schematic for the HH-S1 strat:
