I have a friend who has squealing on a tele neck pup. It's a Warmoth tele with Fralins.

I think this question has come up before, but I don't remember the solution, even though I have a couple of ideas of what might cause it.

thanks kindly

a loose cover is often a problem in Tele neck pickups...it's worth a shot.

thanks, Christian

some of the ideas I had, from what I remembered from previous posts, were contact between the coil and the cover, and insufficient grounding

also, I did a search, and a faulty pot gets mentioned frequently as a cause of squealing

Well, there is always the issue of whether the pup is potted or not also.

I looked at Fralin's site, and it says it's potted.

I had a feeling it was potted...Im still willing to bet that if you take it out and make sure the cover is nice and tight it'll get better.

are you 100% it's the guitar? are you using a tube amp?

just thinking outside the box

tom

I'll ask him to check the cover .. I just looked at one of my SDs, and it looks like the cover's held on by the solder joints, and a couple tabs bent over

my friend Sam called me from the road, which is why I posted ... he mentioned when he finished his tele that it squealed, but now it's starting to bother him

thanks again

Well, if it was a bridge pup with a baseplate attached I'd say the wax potting on the baseplate had come loose, but on the neck pup? I guess he could pot the neck pup with the cover just to be sure.
