How do these sound?? The description on the site doesnt really say. Invasion of hostile interplanetary forces?? Makes me think of ray guns..Can you compare to a C5 or 59 for me?? Thanks
Very chunky and thick.
59 cheer up...
how about the distortion?? Im curious about that..
The Invader is one of the most powerful passive pickups made, certainly the most powerful I've ever heard. It gives you mega-output with HUGE lows and low mids and is the perfect cure for any guitar that sounds overly bright or thin or just generally wimpy. If you want to just crush the front end of your amp, this is your pickup.
On the other hand, if your guitar seems to naturally have good tone balance or especially if it is bass-heavy, the Invader is definitely the wrong pickup for it. It will sound like pure mud.
It is essentially a super-hard rock to metal pickup so those in search of a semi-beefy vintage tone, this ain't the one.
totally in-your-face heavy low end distortion. I have one and it absolutely rumbles. Awesome tone. I highly recommend

that means no using invaders in an LP?
I would go by that rule if I were you pac112, of course if you have a bright amp or a bright les paul (it can happen) try it, you got nothing to lose.

1, I love the Invader. Has to be in a lighter guitar though.
the Distortion is a mid/treble focused pickup. It doesn't have a lot of bass. It is a great pickup in most everything but lighter guitars. Think of George Lynch's earlier stuff.

1, My RG is a very light basswood guitar, and i couldn't be happyier with the invader in it, it sounds huge and has a sound like no other pickup ive heard. The fact its a high output pickup that is strongly EQ'd around the bass and mids means it sounds pretty different to most other high output pickups.

Everything Zhangliqun says here is 100% accurate. I had an Invader in an Alder Squire strat in the late 80s. It worked really well in that guitar and I was able to nail Randy Rhoads tone, which is what I wanted at the time. But it's definately not a quot;sweetquot; sounding pickup. Pure power, and as said, it will be overly bassy and muddy in the wrong guitar.
Would be good in my Carvin then. Its a little bright, but Im not sure I could give up the sweet Blues Saraceno thats in it................
I agree with Zhangliqun. He is about right on the money!!
I played Gr8scott's invader equipped carvin superstrat the other weekend and I was half impressed. I used to play an Invader through digital setups (pod and other processors) and it didnt have much clarity and it was too muddy. Through my Marshall 2100 it sounded quite good actually. It sounded HUGE and I could actually hear the G-high E strings. I have also noticed that Invaders make cheap small combo amps distortion sound alot better.

In the average LP, probably not.
But I had a Les Paul Elegant once, which has large quot;tone chambersquot;. You would think that would add midrange to a guitar but in this case it sucked the mids right out of it. It had more than enough brightness and bite to give any Tele a run for its money.
I tried an Invader in it once and it sounded pretty good, but it was a gorgeous guitar -- glowing butterscotch finish over amazingly symmetrical quilted maple and gold hardware -- and the Invader just didn't look right on it, so I went with a Gibson 500T with a gold cover.
If the guitar was black, I probably would have kept it in there.
Juz one question...Is it good to place a invader at neck position in a ibanez grx 70...?me new at this

The dude in C.O.C uses an invader in his Les paul. As far as Im concerned I think they have some of the best sounds in recent years.

I'd have to agree after seeing a COC video Saturday night. Sounded real cool and original.
Definitely one of my favorite pickups. Full range output and massive tone. They sure as hell wake up an SG!
How would it sound in a Maple body, maple neck, ebony board, brass nut (BRIGHT) axe???
