The secret to my longstanding problem of liking my tone one day and hating it the next. It's so simple, I don't understand why I didn't figure it out before.

The problem is that for rock, I need one rig. For metal, I need another rig.

For rock, I need tube distortion from a guitar plugged straight into a vintage tube amp.

For metal, I need an amp with a tonne of headroom, and a clean sounding overdrive pedal with the capability of mid shaping. The problem was that when I would play, I'd be constantly switching between styles, always searching for a setup that was a jack of all trades. So simple... so freeing....

so what?

Freeing until your wallet learned of this lol.

I definately hear you though man... I just bought a Line 6 Distortion Modeler, we'll see if maybe that solves my problem

I agree. I need like...3 amps and 7 guitars, it sucks.

You, my forum-friend, have what some in my state call a 'pickel'(and no, its not in your pants if your of the male sex, get your head outta the gutter if you thought that! )

You need a more versatile amp. Sounds like you want a Bogner Ecstacy. I've tried them on a few occasions and heard them on several really different-sounding recording. It is a true do-it-all amp. GJ will attest to this.

Hope you're saving your pennies.

To my knowledge, pickle is slang for dumb-[insert any one of a variety of four letter curses]. I'm hurt man. Like, emo-hurt.

Hope you're saving your pennies. A more versatile amp, or a less diverse set. :-D I'm using a 71 traynor VM1. I can get great clean tones at lower volume, so I can send in a distorted signal without driving the tubes and it's good for recording purposes. Can't do the same when I try playing at live volumes.
