I'm pretty interested in adding another dimension to my music.

You might consider Alesis.

depends on yoru budget. If you mean uber cheap, Casio makes a great keyboard in the $100 range.

I'd get a midi keyboard and then use it to trigger a software like Absynth or Edirol.But, if you want to use it for more than just recording, The Casios work great, and Yamaha makes some good cheap stuff.

I would highly suggest getting a used Ensoniq, they are simple enough to understand and have few drawbacks....

I gig with an Ensoniq SQ-2 and a EPS16 .... The SQ 1,2 or 3..is one of the easiest to use and sequence with... and doesn't require a op sys disk when booted like the EPS/ASR series.....until you get big into keys...no real need for all this...

Most quot;decentquot; KB's have velocity control.....toy's don't......good luck!

Hardware synths are really on their way out. I'd suggest a midi controller that you can USB up to your computer and trigger softsynths. This is the way all electronic music is going- you will have something that doesn't easily become obsolete and is infinately configureable.

the microkorg is great:
from : localhost/also be used as a midi controller. it may look like a toy but the sounds you can get out of it are great, there's tons of sounds on that thing. and let's face it, how cool is a vocoder! the only problem is since the keys are smaller it can be uncomfortable to play for long periods of time. but if you juist want something to add some color and flourishes to your songs it's a great piece of equipment.

check out the roland juno-D, its got some great sounds/features on it, and I THINK it can be used as a midi controller (therefore making it never obsolete)

I wasn't able to listen to the Ensoniq, but I did hear the Korg and Roland models and those both sounded great! Wish there was more audio samples from the Juno-D, though... Guess I'll just have to pay a visit to GC sometime in the near future... Thanks a lot guys!
