I am working on a project and it is getting to the point that I need to get the switching Figured out. Hum -Sing-Hum config. I would like to have the standard 2 humbucker/3way switching on positions 1-3 of a 5 way switch and on positions 4 and 5 I would like to run the single in normal and tapped mode. Can this be done or should I just forget it on go with the Mega Switch setup (all humbucking options)? Any other options? Lew, Artie, T4D, John?

A mega-switch can accommodate the linkages that you listed since all 5 positions are independent. A regular 5-way switch is really a 3-way switch with the two intermediate positions added in, so it is much more limited- but then again there is trick wiring available with the regular 5-way strat switch that you can't do easily with a mega-switch.

If there are more linkages that you would like to add you can use a DPDT toggle switch or push-pull pot. (I always figured it was a waste of resources to wire up a mega-switch with only 5 options since it is so easy to add more... )

As BlueGuitar said, you can do this with a simple 5-way, and one push/pull pot. You would, basically, be doing the same thing that I did with my HSS Genny.

Wire up the 5-way just as any 3-pup Strat would be, minus the tone control part. But, you'ld reverse either the neck and middle, or the middle and bridge hot wires. So you would have, one of the following:

With middle and bridge reversed:

1. neck
2. neck amp; bridge
3. bridge
4. middle amp; bridge
5. middle

With neck and middle reversed:

1. middle
2. neck amp; middle
3. neck
4. neck amp; bridge
5. bridge

Both of these assume #1 position to be the switch position closest to the neck.

Now, just connect the quot;tappingquot; wire to ground through the push/pull switch.
Lets say you used the second scenario above, you'ld have

1. middle (tapped or full-on)
2. middle (tapped or full-on) amp; neck
3. neck
4. neck amp; bridge
5. bridge

That gives you a great selection of quot;tonesquot;.
