Hey - sorry i'm a newbie. I want to do a pickup swap in my MIM tele. Trying to go for a higher output pup and crunchier sound I decided to install a hot rails in the bridge pos. I read under quot;tech tipsquot; that it might be wise to put in a 500k volume pot to smooth out the load and making the pickup less dark sounding. Now i don't want too much bass but i'm ok with an adequate amount since my playing style ranges from Metal to Hard rock to Classic rock. Would a 500k be a good choice?

The hotrails is very bass heavy (correct me if im wrong) if you want a high gain tele i'd go with a lil' 59 or a Quarter pounder.

I can't speak much on how it works in a tele, but I have the HRb and HRn in LesStrat. A CR in the middle completes the package.

The HR is very mid-heavy. It is a dark pup overall, but it's the MIDS that are emphasized. In LesStrat, changing to 500k pots gave more clarity than anything else. I know it theoretically adds quot;brightnessquot;, but the real difference was in the clarity of the pup (I was NOT looking for brightness, BTW. But I am satisfied with the results.).

Also, I used Push/Pull pots and wired it to be able to split the coils.

And since you're looking for high output, they don't call it the HOT Rails for nothing.

I did not find my tele hot rails to be bass heavy. Maybe it was my amp. I used a 250k pot and it seemed appropriate.

Heh, Everytime something has strong mids I think its bass heavy. Thanks for the correction.

I have a The hotrails in my tele at the moment it virtually a humbucker. i want to get a tele sound out of the bridge, the sound of the hotrails has too much bass and mids for my liking and not enough hi's and twang so im replacing it today
