It's a 1999 model, and the pickups are passive and has the usual bass preamp package, e.g., volume knob (with push/pull for active/passive), blend pot, and three active EQ knobs (bass-mid-treble). The volume and blend are normal nobs while the EQ knobs are smaller.

This is a very cool bass overall, but whether it's the wood or the electronics, it's a little on the dark side and I want to get a little more presence/brightness or whatever it takes to get a better funk slap/snap tone out of it. It's close, but doesn't have enough of that classic Fender quot;pingquot;, especially on the lower strings.

As I said, the pickups are passive and they are Jazz-style. I'm interested in suggestions for both pickup replacements and active preamp/EQ replacements that would be a direct replacement without any woodwork being necessary -- again, for a SIX-string bass.

Man, I wish I could be more help on this one for you man, you can consider this more of a bump than anything.

On a 5 sting with SD vintage jazz it sounded very.....zingy?

Again I haven't tried any non-factory 6 string bass pups. My bass is an old Gibson EB-0 with the stock motherbucker.

I'm pretty savvy with guitar electronics, but I have far less experience with monkeying around inside bass guitars, even though been playing bass as long as guitar. Probably 95% of the people in here are guitar players and not bass players so I figure it will take longer than usual to get some solid advice on this, so I'm willing to wait.

So just think of this as a...SELF-BUMP
