Hello everyone......I`m new here and can use some help! I just bought an American Standard Fender Strat and i want to change the bridge pickup for something more powerful but with the tone intact!!!!! I`ve heard some good things about the Hotrails,LiL 59,JB Jr.,and Dimarzio`s Fast track! Also, Fender`s Vintage Noiseless Hot pickups, but havn`t had any experience with any of them. I`m usually a Humbucker guy but always wanted a USA Fender Strat and now i got one but i`m not use to the Less powerful single coils! The Strat has Great sound but i need more beef for the bridge position! Any help would be appreciated...Thanks!

Rio Grande Muy Grande

Antiquity Texas hot Custom Bridge...it is a true Single coil (and a damn fine example at that) and being would to around 9.5-9.75k it will have all the beef you need!

Quarter Pound Strat. That should give you ALL the cluck you need

I like the Duncan Twangbanger and the Antiquity Texas Hot Custom best. Better than every other pickup that's been mentioned above. Lew

Welcome.

I like the SSL-3 Hot.

It will satisfy your need for beef.

Yes it will. It's an alnico 5 pickup.

I've really come to prefer bridge pickups like the alnico 2 Twangbanger and alnico 2 Texas Hot Custom myself...more mids, more growl, more of paf-ish type warm honk. Easier to do a Eric Clapton with Cream type tone even though they are single coils and not humbuckers like Eric used back then.

But the SSL-3 is a killer pickup...especially the tapped version (SSL-3T) which lets you get vintage output as well as the hot output.

Lew

WOW!!!!! Alot to choose from! *LOL* Thanks for the suggestions everyone! The SSL-3 Hot sounds good and price is reasonable. I guess i wont be looking too much with the custom ones only because of the higher prices. Has anyone heard the Noiseless Hot Fender pickups that Jeff Beck uses on his Strats? Thanks again!

Moonsorrow,
from my all too brief encounter with the noiseless pickups, I honestly think you'd be happier in the long run with Duncans. Fender makes some nice pickups, but I just don't think they're as smooth as Seymour's stuff.

Lew's right about the tapped option for the SSL-3, too. I have one waiting to go in a strat, but that project has gotten delayed a little lately. It will give you some nice versatility between the bridge and mid pickups, though.

I'm not positive what Jeff Beck REALLY uses, but despite what's in his sig strat, word is that he has at least one strat with some custom wound APSs.

How does the Fralin SP43 bridge pup stack up to those mentioned above?

Lew's commented before that the SP43 has some P90 characteristics, and he and Stratdeluxer like those.
hopefully they'll comment

PAF-ish! Really! That TwangBanger is sounding better everyday. But I still wish it had another name.

The only problem i see with the Duncans is that they aren`t hum cancelling. The LiL 59,JB Jr,Hotrails are but i wanna keep the Strat sounding like a Strat....just one thats pumped up!!!!

QP Strat isn't hum cancelling.

Hellion.....I know, thats the problem i want a pickup that is hum cancelling but not the single coil ones that sound like humbuckers such as JB Jr.,Hotrails ect....The SS-3 and all those sound good but their not hum cancelling!

Well, then there are the Duckbuckers, classic stack pickups, and Hot Stacks, and literature says that they are indeed hum cancelling.

Does anyone have experience with DiMarzio single coils? Most of their`s seem to be noiseless!

Thanks Guitar Toad....Do you know if the pickups you mentioned are hotter then the stock Standard American Strat pickups?

I don't know what the stock american series pups are rated at. But, I'll bet lunch that the Classic Stack and Hot Stack are hotter than what you've got.

Moonsorrow, to get the single coil strat sound, you have to take what it comes with - hum. True single coils will hum. As mentioned, there are the hum cancelling pups, but they're not true single coils.

You can further shield your strat if you haven't done so. It can eliminate a lot of the hum, though of course it won't get rid of it all. And besides, you only hear the hum when you're not playing
