does anybody hear have a dd coil tapped? how does it sound? what would be the benefit of splitting a pup?.......help
I have a DD neck split. In fact, I have a DPDT on-off-on switch so that I can select either coil, or full 'bucker mode. I love it. It definitely gets that single-coil vibe when split. It has a nice, quot;airyquot;, chimey, almost Strat sound when split.
If I was going to use a push/pull pot to do it, ie., only able to split to one coil or the other, I'd split the coil closest to the neck, in both positions. (neck or bridge.)
If, on the other hand, I was going to use a pp-pot to do both at the same time, I'd split to the inside coils. At least, thats what my ears prefer so far.
I like my DD split more than I like it full.
I have a normal/split/parallel switch. It sounds nice and stratty split, glassy with bite. A bit hotter than a normal strat pickup.
Parallel it sounds like a tele.
The split is the reason I haven't sold this guitar after buying my gibson.
slade
well i want to split it because i have a 80quot;s Kramer Barretta and it only has a single humbucker at the bridge, maybe if i split the dd i can get some cleaner sound out of that guitar....what do you all think?
Definitely . . . I agree with danglybanger. I use mine more split, than not.
